Country music....
do you listen to it? what's your favorite? classic or modern?
i like both. more classic than new though. just got home from a Trace Adkins concert, he puts on a hell of a good show. his opening band was Old Dominion. they were really good! i think they are on the verge of being superstars. they have written songs for "the Band Perry" and Deirks Bentley. (they wrote The Band Perry's smash "Better Dig Two" )

Re: Country music....
I like the new stuff. Although, some of it, I dont even know why it's classified as Country. It's more Rock to me. The old stuff is too twangy and stereotypical.

Trace Adkins was amazing btw. that guy has got some major guns on him...

Re: Country music....
Well, Country seems to have blossomed more into a lifestyle than a musical genre. Sure, there's a few throwbacks. But if you take a song like Hillbilly Bone by Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins, the only thing Country about it are the lyrics. The melody and the arrangement are pure rock. And there's alot of others that would definitely have been classified in the Rock, Southern Rock or Pop genres 30 years ago

(and Trace did play Hillbilly Bone", it was great! but he didn't do my favorite "i'm Tryin'" )

I like old and new country, I grew up listening to Jim Reeves, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline Charlie Rich , Eddy Arnold, Marty Robbins. But I like Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Reba, Clint Black (Don't hear much any more) Randy Travis.
My all time favorite is Marty Robbins.

Well they have said that disco derives from country and rock, but don't tell that to anyone who listens to country exclusively, or you'll not make it out of the conversation with all of yer teeth in yer head...

Re: Country music....
Most people I know consider Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker "Southern Rock".
I believe there are more genres these days and sometimes when they cross over or people don't know where to put a song or group they just make another genre up.I like when you hear a new song and you just know there is an influence from another genre in there. It makes it interesting.
Sometimes people are just confused by things in music. If you see a full orchestra playing it doesn't make it classical. But then again there are people that will argue that there is classical music in that song so it does.Look at groups like ELO. Some might ague over what genre they should be classified as.When you look them up most things say they are a "rock band with classical overtones". If you really want to get confused see how many genres they are listed in or even more confusing is Earth Wind and Fire. I think they are listed as just about every genre they music world could come up with and they added a few extra for good measure.

I like music period. I am more familiar with country. But I like songs in almost all genres.
As a teenager, I used to have a trio of songs I always played on the jukebox when I went into the pool hall.
old rock, new(at the time) country, grunge rock

Re: Country music....
some of those "Old Twangy Shit" were the best written songs ever. Hank Williams, for example, may have the twangiest voice of all times, but his lyrics are damn near haunting. very well written, compared to today's rock n roll. (i mean who writes a song with the following lyrics: La-La-La (whatever), La-La-La (It doesn't matter) if i had written that, i'd be amazed that it hit the top 40, let alone the top 10?)
