Why is it the less material the more it costs?
I so went into the wrong business.Obviously most of you know I have this little addiction problem with shoes. So I have been looking for some new sandals. I always wonder why the less material they use the more it costs. I looked at these sandals that had barely a tread across the top of the foot and a thread across one toe and they were $400. Yes you read that right $400.No I didn't buy them.
It has always been that way. Clothes are the same. The less material is always more expensive. Also the more simple it is the more it costs.
Last year I was hunting for plain beige pumps. NO platforms or embellishments, no patent leather, not suede, just plain leather beige pumps in a classic style. I could not find a pair less than about $300. I finally took a pair of designer ones I had from years ago and found a shoe maker to fix them and get any scuffs out. It cost me I think $20-30 to fix and I had what I was looking for.
It's insane! Even if I hit the lottery I would never pay $400 for the sandals I mentioned. I could have them custom made for less! So why do people pay that just because a designer puts their name on it? Don't get me wrong, I like some designer things but I NEVER pay retail. It's against my DNA. By the way the $400 price tag on those sandals was the SALE price.
I guess this is where the expression "Less is more" came from. On the good side I found an AMAZING pair of shoes at a great price on clearance. I only need one more pair of flat sandals now and then I'm done. (In theory. Until I see the next cute pair of shoes.lol)
So whats the most you would pay for your favorite addiction? NO DRUGS OR ILLEGAL STUFF PLEASE

I find great deals on my stuff. It seems the less expensive, the cooler it is. Unique. I think the most I've spent is $150.00 on some fine boots. And, my shit does not have any signs or labels.

Re: Why is it the less material the more it costs?
My addiction is tools....I paid 300 for a 120 year old broadaxe, and that was a deal. Any other power tool or hand tool I'll wait for a sale.
I'll shop around for fair prices on firearms, as I consider them a tool for what I do as well, but I know I have way to many .
I know I've paid a pile of money for boots and shirts, but my most comfortable pair are some cheap knock offs .
Saddles are another one, I'll always buy used handmade ones, I'll get a 3500.00 Knight or Eamor saddle for under a 1000.00, but my most comfortable is a 400.00 Circle Y highback, that most "real" cowboys wouldn't even throw on their kids pony.

Re: Why is it the less material the more it costs?
See, most of you get that sometimes the real rush is the art of the deal. Maybe it's the sales person in me to negotiate everything. Kam laughs because I just can't bring myself to pay full price for anything. I figure if I can get a pair of designer boots for $50 then why pay $500? I can shop with the best of them. I hate shopping so I do my homework first. I sometimes will miss out on something because I wait for a mark down but that's a chance I am willing to take.(Most of the time)
I'm really good at knowing what a mark up is on something and understand the fact that everyone needs to make money, however it should be a fair amount.Even when I buy cars I get great deals. The real way to save money is just arm yourself with information. If you know the mark up on a car, figure out what a fair profit is and go from there. Also be willing to walk away!
Keep in mind the knowledge, experience, and talent someone puts into whatever you are buying when you buy things. Some things deserve a larger markup.Sometimes you are paying for someones talent, experience etc. not just materials.Paying more also doesn't always mean its better quality.
Some designer shoes are the most uncomfortable things you can image. I swear they can be considered torture devices, although very pretty torture devices.Yes there are some shoes made to look pretty but not to walk in. Don't judge!

A "Circle Y highback"...... and, you're talking about a saddle?
Your thinking of Circle the heartshaped ass, with a tattoo high on her back, but that was an honest mistake.
Circle Y has just purchased Reinsman I believe, which puts them as one of the larger saddle makers that still manufactures saddles in North America , the rest are made in Mexico or China , and fall under the category of blister makers.
Highback saddles are used in competition and steep mountain riding, and prevent the rider from slipping off the back, but they suck for doubling up with your girl. They also are very good for bare-ass riding as when your clothing mysteriously falls off ....you don't.

Well, I know I don't stress out about it. That would take all the joy away.

Re: Why is it the less material the more it costs?
I've seen those high back saddles but never used one. I always wondered if they were comfortable. I have used saddles that were not very comfortable and that is NOT fun.I always wondered what saddles the horses find the most comfortable as well.

If your built narrow in the hip they are great...
Saddle fitting is an art form....I usually will ride a new saddle in the round pen for awhile without a blanket and see if the bars on the tree rub evenly along the back and withers, and the gullet is high enough when the horse moves.
Those white marks you see on horses, on the withers, are healed saddle sores
from improperly fitted saddles, and it usually has a total shithead sitting in the seat.

I paid $3.50 for a pair of red 4-inch pumps from the Wild Pair. And, $10.00, for some adorable satin pumps at K-Mart. They looked like Dorothy's pumps from the Wizard of Oz, only they were black.
I gave them to my girl friend to wear at her wedding. Even her husband noticed them.
I am the shoe fairy!

For years, I've refysed to pay more than 20-30 dollars for a pair for jeans, a pair of shoes or most any clothing. Just insane what they charge.

I am always amazed how many people claim to love animals yet do them a tremendous amount of harm. I have reported more places for animal abuse than I care to think about. The sad part is there are no laws that truly protect them. The misconception about animal protection in this country is mind blowing. I know in many cases I personally can't close a place down for mistreating the horses or what ever animal the place is mistreating, but I can hit them in the pocketbook. That is where most of them care about the most.
I am glad that some people that work with animals take the time to care for them. Personally I believe when you treat an animal with love they give it back to you more than you can imagine.
