Is it the Mom in me?
I have noticed a few things since I have gotten more involved in social media. I have reconnected with several people I was friends with while growing up.It turns out that almost all of my friends have been VERY successful! In a way it's a little blow to my ego but then I try to remember I was doing pretty well myself and my car accident is what changed my life.Anyway, I don't just mean that they make a lot of money although most of them do. I mean these people in some ways are truly at the top of the food chain in their chosen profession. One guy is one of the top Neuroscientist in the country if not more. One guy is in the Jazz hall of fame. One guy is the top guy at a big time hospital. Another friend is one of the top wine collectors and experts in wine in the world. One is one of the top 3 I believe high end Realtors in Manhattan. One person is the head of the Music department in one of the best universities in the world that offer music as a major. Yes he actually taught the guy who is in the Jazz hall of fame. One guy is on some committee that decides the math curriculum for every school in this country from Kindergarten through college.
I can keep going as far as their accomplishments but that's not really the point. The point is, in a strange way I am really proud of all of them. I know I had nothing to do with them having success but yet I still am happy and proud as if they are my children.Just as those who didn't do so well or have past away sadden me. As an example one guy I went to school with killed someone and spent most of his adult life in jail until he was deported when he was released from jail. Then there are those who passed away for various reasons.
I wonder if social media is what is bringing this out in me and others or is it something that has always been there, maybe because I'm a mom. I understand that accomplishments of someone you are tied to in some way is just something that happens.Do others feel this way too?
One little side note that just made me laugh. I was watching a video on that website that posts everything. The video was a lecture on Neuroscience. It was going great until the geniuses had to use technology, in this case skype. OMG How can they be so bright but can't use simple things? Always happens when you hand them stuff that has anything to do with technology. But yet they can dig around your nervous system like they drive around the corner in your car.

Re: Is it the Mom in me?
I have reconnected with a number of friends via social media as well. In fact one guy I had not spoken to in 25 years, invited me to stay at his house overnight & give me a lift to the airport when a mutual classmate of our was very ill, his wife had never even met me but we've all reconnected. That is an amazing friendship that was lost had it not been for social media reconnecting us.
Not sure if it is the mom so much as trait of a true friend and deeply genuine person. I don't know you but the simple fact that other peoples success and achievements give you a sense of pleasure and even pride I think speaks a lot to who you are as a person as well as your own personal happiness. You sound like the type of person I would be blessed to have a a friend. Generally those who are negative and condemning are very unhappy people.
We attract what we project.
