Memorial Day Celebration
The National Memorial Day Concert takes place on the west lawn of the United States Capitol. Music is performed, and respect is paid to the men and women who gave their lives for their country.
For many Americans, the central event is attending one of the thousands of parades held on Memorial Day in large and small cities all over the country. Most of these feature marching bands and an overall military theme with the National Guard and other servicemen participating along with veterans and military vehicles from various wars.

Re: Memorial Day Celebration
I always though it was a bit sad that most people think of BBQ's and the shore rather than what the holiday is supposed to be about.

Re: Memorial Day Celebration
When I'm out with friends, I take a moment to tell their kids, and them, a little history. They ought to know. The pool and BBQ is great, but your parents and grandparents are here in this country, free, and safe, because someone was over there!!!!!

Re: Memorial Day Celebration
This is the day we go to the cemetery and clean up the headstones, place flags on my Great Grandfathers grave and just sit and visit. I might be going today or tomorrow will see how the weather holds. I will be taking my Grandson with us this year.

Awesome tradition Ma, and what a great gift to give your grandson. Our little community has just raised the money to adorn it's light poles with American Flags. There is a feeling that comes over me every time I drive through a community adorned with flags. An immense pride of my family members who have defended our freedoms.

Re: Memorial Day Celebration
I feel this is worth sharing.
"D-Day, June 6th, 1944. On that one day 6,603 American military died. Another 4-thousand of our allies. They died so you could sit on the couch right now with your smartphone. They died so those kids sleeping in the other room would have freedom. They died for you and me. If you know a Vet... thank them."
