Get It Right The First Time
Anybody whose ever worked in any kind of service industry knows the adage "There's always time to do something over, but there's never enough time to do it right to start with".
I had a part blow on one of my machines. It's a real pain in the nads because not only is this part hard to get to, but it weighs about 200 pounds. Took it to the local hydraulic shop, it took them 6 days to get it finished. At first the repair was supposed to be $1000, which was about $200 more than I paid for it when I bought it for brand new 2 years ago from the same company. Anyway, I got them down to $580. Picked up on Friday, paid them cash, took it back to my shop and my guy calls me Saturday morning and tells me that they did it wrong. Now all I did was take it there and pick it up. My guy had called the Service Manager and told him specifically what he wanted done to it. well, I guess that was more than they could comprehend. We took it back this morning, reminded him of the phone conversation and his response was "Yeah, you did say that. I forgot".
So now, in addition to the 6 days it took to repair it, we're now down 4 additional days because of a "Oh yeah, I forgot". Dumb asses.

Re: Get It Right The First Time
Hydraulics are not that confusing to begin with, and the puppy had better work by the time you get it back.
There is nothing worse than getting charged for a second "dumbass" repair that you had nothing to do with.

Re: Get It Right The First Time
There wont be any more charges, it's just the aggravation of having to do the back and forth, the mess in the back of my car and more importantly, the down time. When that machine is down, nothing is going out and when nothing is going out, there's no money coming in

Re: Get It Right The First Time
With me it's my fault something didn't get delivered on time, even when I have no idea what they're talking about. The other day I made a delivery to an old customer of ours. He was pretty upset when I arrived with the part in tow.
"Took you fuckin' long enough! I only wanted it an hour ago!" he screamed. I looked at the slip and noted the time it was printed. I delivered it within five minutes of the receipt.
"I'm not superman, but five minutes is pretty quick in my book?!" I replied. He was taken back by confrontationalism. After seeing the slips date and time stamp, he realized that the counter guy lied to him about my slowness to react. He didn't apologize for anything, but from the greeting I got, when I got back to the shop, I realized he'd called back to the store. They were none too happy with me that day...

From someone inside a large company that deals in sales and customer service. Do you really want to know how often errors happen? Lies get told. Or much crap gets ignored?

I'm sure that there are tons of lies from people just trying to cover their own asses.
Ive mentioned before that I have a LOT of shirts. About a year ago, I realized that I had forgotten to pick up some of them from the dry cleaners. I'll admit, I had left them there for almost a year. Anyway, I went in there, gave them my slip, they hand me my bag and 5 of the shirts that were in there were mine, and 5 werent. I pointed it out to the women and she told me that they had to be, because their job is, when a customer brings them in, they keep them all together. So I showed her that the other shirts were 3 sizes larger than what I wear. She repeated what their job is and told me I must have done something wrong. I told her I have no control over who is doing their job once I hand my things over the counter. So I informed her that MY job is to bring them in and pay for them when they were done and take them home. I wanted to complete parts 2&3. She continued to insist that somehow it was my fault and finally pointed to the bottom of the slip where it said "Not Responsible For Items Left Over 30 Days". I now have 5 less shirts and a new dry cleaner
