No, I'm very picky about my garlic. I peel it and put it in the chopper

You could still put it in the chopper after smashing it.

Re: National Garlic Day
i bet i could make the same dish three times, using garlic powder, the stuff in the jar, and fresh garlic, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

If you guys want to take a cooking lesson from a mountain boy, try this..
Preheat your oven to 375, place the entire head of garlic, and red bell peppers on a pan, and roast them for 30 to 45 minutes.
Let cool peel, and chop the roasted garlic, and chop the peppers, throw in your sauce....and don't listen to my oregano enhanced friend Free...put some freakin beef in it , everybody loves a meat eater.

Re: National Garlic Day
Here's another one...I can't believe I'm giving out recipes on a sex site..
Take a frying pan, melt margarine, and add a little olive oil.
Throw in some good quality pot, or oregano, diced onions and lots of garlic.
Then throw in whatever sliced mushroom you want ...I use portabello, if I can get them in town, but regular mushrooms taste fine.
Put a lid on them till they look cooked , or until your almost finished your beer.
Throw in some more finley diced garlic, parsley, and whatever booze you want,
Wine, Sambuca ,Tequila,...I use Brandy,... just the cheap shit you serve to your relatives.
Watch for flames if you use brandy !
When your almost ready to serve throw in a bit of balsamic vinager, and let simmer for just a few minutes...not to long just so they darken up. If you start coughing from the fumes ,you've got it about right.
You'll never want Northern Interior Angus steak without them once you've tried it.

This actually sounds pretty good. I can feel the love that you do this with:
Whatever booze you want
Or until your beer is gone
Coughing from the fumes
Cheap shit you serve your relatives
Watch for flames
You make it all sound so alluring. You should write a freakin cook book.
However, there was one thing that I found to be totally offensive in your recipe:
Margarine? Are ya kidding me? MARGARINE??? Do they even still make that stuff? Why dont ya just throw a couple of rolled up balls of plastic wrap in there?

Re: National Garlic Day
Even though I've tried it that way before and gotten peels stuck in the fruit, I'll be a team player and try it again. Believe me, with as much garlic as I use, Ive been looking for an alternative to peeling for years. It's mind numbingly boring, sticky and time consuming. Garlic presses suck. At first I thought it was because what I bought was cheap. So I shelled out $50 for one. I used it once.
But when I make dinner tonight, I will try the smashing technique. Updates at 5 and 6, right here on Channel 7's Eyewitness News.

I use that Becel stuff, with non-hydrogenated vegetable oil, but I will use butter if I have it. Remember my friend, the grocery store is 80 klms. one way for me,....the melted plastic I use when there are people in my guest cabin who have overstayed their welcome., and if I feel like recycling.
