There's nothing showie about a set of berduzers, on a young ladies bedside table...although now I'm incredibly curious, and still a little scared...

I had some issues with a guy who thought he would make himself a spot in my life by force. He didn't want to find out if I would use them on him or not. Worked well.

So a week ago I had a premature calf on the ground, and have been milking the mother and bottle feeding it......every 3 hours night and day...and I'm exhausted beyond belief,...and a few minutes ago she finally fed herself.
It's a small victory, but a victory none the less.

A little stronger every day...she's imprinted on me so if she hears my voice, or sees my flashlight ,she will run to me.
I let her and mom out in the general population today, and she promptly got head butted , and knocked over...and of course I ran to her aid, kicking and yelling like a mad man at the offending cow.
I geuss after bottle feeding her for a week , I have become attached.
Oh and I named her # 83..

Hey Syb, there was a video I saw yesterday online of a female moose who was trying to defend her calf from what started out as one wolf, and ultimately 6. It was kinda hard to watch because it didnt end well, but it painted a pretty clear picture of what you go through with those nasty bastards

The thing that is most misunderstood about wolves is people think they will kill multiple animals because of blood lust, they will kill one,and then another, and another....
With Timber wolves and Arctic wolves in a cold climate, the carcass will freeze, keeping up to 7 or 8 months, and they will come back to feed all winter...they will not waste.
A Rancher will inspect the kills leaving his scent, and they won't go within 500 feet of their kill at that point, giving the appearance that they waste, or kill for the fun of it. They have incredible risk of injury to themselves when they try to take down an animal, and will keep that risk to a minimum.
Usually the Alpha pair will only breed and have pups, and that is determined by the amount of food available to the entire pack,...so to wolves, food is everything, it is the determining factor in the size of family, strength, health, and common welfare,...and normal pack behaviour also determines the general health of prey animals, taking down the old and weak first, and sadley the very young.
I respect them for what they are, and ask they respect me also, giving me my space, when they don't.. we both suffer.
Thank you for thinking of me Free.

i also believe that they will not attack a a rancher's livestock, unless there is no other choice. if there are plenty of deer, moose, elk, caribou, etc around, most wolves will hunt those creatures before domestic livestock generally, correct?

Re: Calving season...
Syb,I love that you respect and understand mother nature. Most people don't think that way. I get very angry at people sometimes. I had a huge argument with this girl online who was saying how she was feeding the deer and bear on her property. She kept saying how she loved them and that she was able to hand feed them. So I basically told her she was signing their death warrant. I explained that by making them think people are safe to be around was bad for the animals and the people. Those things never turn out well. You must remember that they are wild and should be treated as such.

Most animals only kill for two reasons...Food or they or their babies feel threatened. I have had this debate with so many people. We are not a preferred food source for any animal I have come across. Most animals don't go looking for people as a sport. Only humans do that. We also have a tendency to encroach on them and then get angry when they act like they are supposed to.If you build a house in the woods where deer and bear live don't get pissed when you see them eating your flowers or going through your garbage. They were there first. If you jump into the ocean into a middle of a bunch of sharks during a feeding frenzy that you baited for so you "can have that experience". Don't blame the shark if you get bit or killed.

We are killing animals for acting like animals. Many wolves are endangered because of human stupidity and it makes me angry that people still look at them like some villain from a fairy tail they heard as a kid.We need to educate ourselves and respect other living things.

we just had the one were the bear took down the jackass but left the lamas alone , they went out and shot the bear , that was the same for the one i hit with the car,i got out i though it was lab , nope it rolls the head i get bear face looking at me, i got to the bar i was going to , found someone that new how to skin it for a rug , but it got up and walked away. next day the dnr was out looking for it, so it didn't go after horses .
we had a dead timber wolf on the high way , surprise the dnr didn't pick it up and we have our share of coyotes too ... did my share of pulling calves out of cows too

Generally yes that would be right,...but they sometimes won't turn down an easy opportunity.
I've seen them walk thru a herd of 50 deer to kill a calf, and then seen them the next week walk right by a carcass. There is also a theory that they can smell sickness or disease, and have seen body parts left in the grass that had tumours, but everything else is gone.
