Re: Meteor over Russia
And we've just had an asteroid the size of an Olympic swimming pool pass withing 18,000 miles of earth, well within the orbit of all our geostationary satellites!

Even more amazingly this was completely unrelated to the Russian meteor

Exact same thing happened here..right over my hayfield, turned everything around blue for a few seconds, but never did hit the ground.

Re: Meteor over Russia
The reports are now saying that over 1,200 injuries related to this incident. What is so fascinating is the claims that this took them all by surprise. The one everyone was watching was the one that was 18,000 miles away and the one that hit was not on the radar of any scientist from what the reports are saying. I wonder how true those reports are. Maybe they figured they couldn't do anything "so let's not start a panic and just deal with the aftermath". They claim the sonic boom was more than 10 to 12 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb.It is really fascinating from a scientific point of view. It's just a shame that so many people got hurt.I can't remember how much they said it was in damages but it was way into the billions.I'm actually surprised these things don't happen more often. I also wonder why so many of the things that do happen like this seem to miss the population for the most part. Why do these things never fall into the middle of LA or NY or other very populated areas.

I just read an article that said the rock (If you can call a 40 ton thing a rock) itself is to have believed to have broken up for the most part with little to none of it actually hitting the ground. The damage was from the energy it produced.

What bothers me is that we are supposed to have some of the best scientific minds and, the most expensive and modern equipment known to man in the world, monitoring these types of things, and not one says that they saw a 40 tom rock until it was in our atmosphere? Not a single person even yelled "The sky is falling!!!!"

Re: Meteor over Russia
the meteor over russia would more likely be a single asteroid because when they enter the atmosphere they disintergrate and shower the earth with fragments tohe reason why more don't fall on cities ia because they take up a fraction of the world's land area most would fall into the oceans.

Yup. No word at all from the lion ,tiger, or bear. Oh, and 40 tons is 80,000 lbs. Same as what most semis are allowed to weigh.
