I had the opposite problem. My ex would send money to anything that labeled themselves as charity. And guess what? once you send money to 1, you get solicitations from dozens more. When my kids were young, we were fortunate enough that she didnt have to work, but she did pay the bills. I rarely looked. Well one day I did. I am FAR from being uncharitable, but I want to know where it's going. And I'm sorry, but to me, the Society for People Without Socks, or Bob's Charity? They get nothing. Sorry for going off topic. I have never gotten a bad valentines day gift. But after reading some of your stories I am trying to understand why most of you have not sworn off women. I hope you are making these stories up . I hate the commercial that says "Those who care the very best, give Diamonds!" That is just a fucked up message to send. I have two brothers and two sons. I always felt like they were under to much pressure to spend ridiculous amounts of money on their girlfriends.It's not just Valentines day either. Prom is a big issue and just irritates me as a parent.Valentines day is second on the list. High School and College kids should not be expected to spend the kind of money that society pressures them to spend on a gift that some ad exec decided is "the" gift to give.

It's fine to give a token gift or acknowledgement like a card but it should not be more than that just because Hallmark said so. Buy the way Cards should not be $3, 4, 5, and even $6 .Then to add insult to injury they want EXTRA postage to mail it then you are lucky if the post office gets it there at all not to mention on time.

I used to know a guy, who would break up with his girlfriend a week before Valentines Day and would get her back the following week after. For a few years there, she was my special valentine. She told me once, that she looked forward to his sabotage of their relationship so he could avoid commitment to her on the lovers holiday. We used to treat it as a long distance relationship. It got so hot and heavy once, that I took the day before the holiday, the day of, and the day after. She did too, and we never left the bedroom for those three days, except to pee or get something to eat. Like clockwork though, he would be around to take her back the week after. It all came to a halt when he married her. I still keep in touch on facebook, seeing her kids growing up and such, but we never speak of those yearly memories. If we see each other out, were friendly to each other, with a twist. We set this up from years past. If we want to relive our bedroom glory days without actually spilling the beans, and cumming clean (pun intended), we used the index-finger nose swipe from the movie, "The Sting" with a wink. Ha, last time we met up, he was there and she did the swipe and he instinctively scratched her nose, thinking it was itchy or something. I tried hard to keep a straight face, as the beer ran up my nose.
