Christmas Parties...
Somehow, I got wrangled into doing the Christmas bash this year. Oh god, I gotta cook?!.. Whose dumb idea was that one?! I think I've bitten off more than I can chew (pun intended) on this one. I was pressured into making a signature dish, so I'm doing a seafood alfredo with lobster and shrimp in a home made alfredo sauce. Some of the other things I'll be doing;
Taco Cups
Fried Raviolis
Quesadillas
Spinach Dip in a Bread Bowl
Nacho Cheese Pinwheels
Pink and Green Popcorn
Cannolis
Strawberry Kiwi Shortcake
and a Christmas Party Punch
I was doing 8 others, but I've since delegated them out to my sisters in protest.
So, do you all have a shindig like this? It's a yearly event here. This year, I've put restrains on the dishes. One of my sister's is a vegetarian, so all dishes have to be consumable by her standards as well as taste good for the rest of us. I can hear them cursing me from here...

I make chocolate chip cookies, brownies with chocolate chips, deviled eggs, and jello shooters.
My friend makes homemade lasagna, homemade sauce, Italian sausage, and this killer pasta salad with anchovies.
My girlfriend makes everything! Stuffing, or dressing, gravy, ham, turkey, green bean casserole, swamp cabbage, pies, rolls, corn. I bring whip cream in a can.
You see, I am not a vegetarian!!! Eat meat!!! Now I'm hungry!

We do a few things. There is a big Chanukah party with friends and family that just gets bigger every year.Everyone brings something and there are a few standbys Being Chanukah it has to have latkes. A few family favorites and new surprises each year.The people are what makes it so special.
Thanksgiving is really nice because we do a friends and family AFTER Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone comes over the day after Thanksgiving and brings their left overs. You would be shocked how many different foods people serve and the variations on traditional food there are.
Christmas for us depends on if all my kids are with me that year. If it's just me and my daughter we do the traditional Jewish Christmas meal and go out for Chinese food.Or We go to a friends house if it is just us.If all my kids are with me that year we do the traditional foods,turkey, ham, a bunch of sides, soup, salad, more deserts than anyone should eat etc.

Sister number-three is in charge of the chocolate portion. I commissioned (more like pleaded) her to make a, "Dirt Cake" layers of chocolate cake, brownies, oreos, whip cream, and marshmallow and chocolate frosting. I pretty much got this thing under control...yea right.

i'm not sure what to call these, but here's my plan, it's still in the experimental stage.
take one tube of refrigerated cinnamon rolls Pillsbury Grands are what i intend to use (but any will do).
take each individual roll (before cooking) and press them into a cupcake or muffin pan (do you know the muffin pan? the muffin pan? he live on Drury Lane!" ) one roll per. make sure you press them firmly to the sides., forming a cup, then fill each cup with apple pie filling and cheesecake filling, and bake. not sure how long they will take, so just use you own judgement. hopefully they turn out delicious.
i have done the same concept using cornbread muffins and chili or the buttermilk biscuits and beef stew. those both are very tasty, but they are best if you cool them in the fridge, and then reheat them.

When I was a kid, back in the 7th grade in home-ec, we used to make fruit cobblers with Phillsbury Coffee Rolls and Pie filling. Just an 8x8 pan with pie filling and the coffee rolls on top at 350 for 20-30 minutes, add the icing when it cools down a bit. It looks pretty impressive from a kids point of view...
