Before They Were Famous
Have you ever known someone or seen a performance by some one who later went on to become a huge celebrity? Maybe you went to school with them or they grew up in your neighborhood.
I personally have not, but what made me think of this was a conversation I had with a buddy of mine the other day about going to concerts. When we were in high school, he had gone to a Doobie Brothers concert. The next day, I asked him how the show was and he said it was good, but the opening act was better than the Doobies. I asked him who it was and he said "Never heard of him before. Some guy named Billy Joel".

Re: Before They Were Famous
That's a good story. Just think, every musician or musical group at one time or another started doing local/regional gigs. Moving up to opening acts for bigger names.
Then, after all thier success, they play casinos, state/county fairs. Kind of like going back to thier roots.

Re: Before They Were Famous
I had a job once where there was a guy in my training group who was actually part of a pretty popular band. We shared cross-wards for weeks and I never even knew who he was, but apparently a lot of other people did because they were pretty shocked when he would acknowledge me.
Im pop-culture ignorant mostly.

Went and saw Blackfoot back in the day. The opening act blew them away it was Def Leppard on their High and Dry tour. We were standing 2nd row and their first lead guitarist, Pete Willis threw a pic out, everyone scrabbling for it, I looked down it was at my feet.

Re: Before They Were Famous
Coming from the place I came from this is a very common occurrence to get to know people "In the business" Some I knew before they were famous some during and some in their decline. I have known and still known many who have become celebrities. Just to name a few. Joey Ramone,Terry Bollea (Hulk Hogan), Jim Brown (Football player and major asshole!), Fred (the hammer)Williamson (football player and actor)Richard Roundtree (Yes, Shaft and nice man),Leonard Marshall of the 1986 Superbowl Giants), Pepper Johnson, Ozzie Virgil Jr, Rudy Giuliani,Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Reiser,Eddie Murphy, Gilbert Gottfried, Mountain, The Duprees. Many many musicians, comedians, actors , news reporters athletes Radio DJ's etc.
I lived in NY I partied and worked there. I had a good friend who was a comedian at the time. Many of the sit-come people most of you know were just getting stated in comedy so I spent time with many of them. I dated more musicians than I can count and spent many nights at clubs like Wave Street (actually dated the owner of that club ),The Paramount, St. George theater (same owner as Wave St.), CBGB's, as well as Studio 54 and the Ritz. If you were from NY you would know these places.
One of my good friends from school just got voted into the I think it was the Blues hall of fame. My entire family has been around famous people our entire lives. Some we met when they were famous some we met before anyone knew who they were, It's really not uncommon if you lived or worked in NYC.I've recently made contact with a few of my long lost friends and it has been so much fun. I'm hoping to make it to some of their shows soon.
I also found my playbill from when I saw Grease on Broadway (I wont mention the year.lol) But Marilu Henner and Treat Williams were in it. No one knew them back them.
I went to school with someone who got famous for all the wrong reasons. Ronald Zamora. He was 15 when he shot and killed an elderly person while robbing her house in Florida (he moved to Florida after middle school, Long story as to why). What made him famous is not his crime however. His trial was very unique. He was tried as an adult. He was also the FIRST EVER televised trial. And the trial was also famous because the defense attorney used the "Kojack defense" His attorney claimed Ronnie become violent and didn't know it was bad because he watched to much Kojack on TV. They even had Telly Savalas testify. Lollipop and all in his mouth. Come on, you know I have to say it for all those people old enough to remember Kojack "Who loves you baby!"

Re: Before They Were Famous
I used to work with this guy Danny...Donovan. His brother, a little rut of kid, was always hanging around the store and wanting be like his big brother. Now he's out on his own. You might know him from the series, "Burn Notice's" Jeffrey Donovan.
When I was a bouncer, back in the day, I worked briefly, with a muscle-bound jock by the name of, "John"...Cena. He still comes around, up here when he's home (Newbury), but he pretends to not know me, but we smile with sort of an evil grin towards each other in a passing wave. I would never ask for anything from either of them and John knows it I think...

Re: Before They Were Famous
I stalked Diane Lane ,for a few weeks, we had some mutual friends....and yes I asked her out repeatedly, she had a boyfriend at the time, and I was very persistent. She never did go out on a date with me, and as we all know ,moved on to become very famous.

Re: Before They Were Famous
Finally I can do this. Shared it with Free, now with you all. A baseball pitcher was in my high school class, Bruce Kison. Little town at the time of Pasco, Wa. He went on to be a major leager. Also, when the Liver Pool five moved to Spokane, Wa., a friend of mine from a different band than mine, Mark Gage, played keyboards with them for a while. He started out in a band in Pasco called the Pastels. Trust me, you dont want to youtube, or google them, they sucked. Even though they put out a couple cuts, they sucked. Almost as bad as the bands I was in, lol. . (I sure like this taunting critter. Since I cant get a dumbass critter, I will adopt this one)
