Cocktails
Just heard on the news about a girl on her 18th birthday who had a cocktail with liquid nitrogen in it. It hadn't all evaporated when she drank it and has barely survived having had to have all of her stomach surgically removed.
Are these type of cocktails common now? I used to be a barman in my mis-spent youth but would never have mixed something as stupid as this...

Re: Cocktails
Well, had to take a minute to look that one up.
I use to bartend (hated it) It was difficult enough dealing with drunk people, having to cut them off when they've clearly had enough, trying to make sure everyone had a sober driver, I'll be dammed if I would want to put a potential lethal drink in front of them and rely on them to listen to the instuctions on how to drink it.

Re: Cocktails
These things are becoming more popular everyday. The problem is people see them on these foodnetwork shows or some trendy bar or restaurant or even on some TV talk show and they think they are able to duplicate it. Its safe if you know what you are doing and use common sense. The problem is most don't understand liquid nitrogen and they have no common sense. Now add that they are normally drunk while trying to play drunk mad scientest bartender. Not a good mix. People that do it correctly are trained in this stuff and give a set of instructions and enforce them while they serve these drinks. Many places actually have the server pour it in your mouth for you so there is no mistake. I even saw on a TV show someone eat something made with liquid nitrogen to early and almost had a serious problem.Luckily he didn't swallow he just burned his mouth a bit. I believe it might have even been Dr. OZ but don't quout me on that one. Its very cool when done right. I've done it several times with icecream and other foods but with someone that knew what they were doing. There is a restaurant that specializes in this. I think it's in Manhattan.

Re: Cocktails
Don't know what they have named these drinks, but I think something with 'Darwin' would be appropriate

I have personally seen 22 lb. turkey individually quick frozen in nitro in 30 seconds.I'm amazed she didn't lose her teeth or esophogus as well.......that'd be one hell of a ice cream headache

Yeah but you have to admit it is cool to watch that stuff in action. Besides watching someones mouth look like a witches cauldron on
Halloween is kind of fun.Besides, if everyone had common sense this would be a boring world. There also wouldn't be anything on TV. See these idiots are supplying entertainment to masses at a very minimal cost.Everyone has their place on earth I guess. If we are lucky they might clear some space while filling their purpose. Now that would be a win win situation in my book.
