QUOTE (hornybastd32 @ September 15, 2012, 23:34)People who don't understand the rules for right-of-way, especially when at a rotary or all-way stop. People who come into my store and refuse to return my greeting, instead going straight to their order without so much as a please or thank you, or anything resembling a complete sentence. People who give me two thirds of a sentence and then say "you know" and trail off. (No, I do not know, please tell me or I will punch you repeatedly in the junk.)
It's all about standards, class, and manners. Encountering individuals with these are becoming rare.
The returning a greeting was a big one for a friend of mine, Julie. She worked in customer service for years at Macy's and later took control of reservations at a beach resort.
She took a department with no profits and turned it around. It began with the appearance and attitude of her staff. It began with a dress code. Island or not, flip flops and short were out.
Anyway, I watched her, and no matter where we were she would say "Hello" and "thanks-you" to the cashier at the grocey, or driver thru, or whomever.
I do it too. It's a shame though we are so speed driven, always in a hurry. In the drive thru the cashier is making drinks, and taking the next order. In a grocery, they ask if you found everything? Maybe you could spend some more money? They are in a rush, sometimes almost a panic. I let them know, "Take your time, breath. I'm not in a hurry."
