BlueGrass
i've recently been turned onto a bluegrass cover band called Honeywagon. they've taken good music and put a bluegrass twist to it, they did tributes to Micheal Jackson, Blink 182, and even Green Day.
if you get a chance check them out on You Toob.
their renditions of Billie Jean and Thriller by Micheal Jackson is amazing!

Re: BlueGrass
Bouegrass is awesome,
I always thought the Moody Blues song "the story in your eyes" would be fantastic in bluegrass.

Re: BlueGrass
Stanley Brothers, Flatt and Scruggs, Doc Watson, Bill Monroe, Bela Fleck, The Dillards (AKA The Darling boys from the Andy Griffith Show)
I do so love it all
Impromptu sessions abound in my area, the cover band guys, the metal guys, love to show up and just bang out the bluegrass and hit the homemade blackberry wine, yeah...I love that I'm hillbilly.

Re: BlueGrass
I saw "New Grass Revival" years ago at a three day annual bluegrass festival called "Wheatland". I love something about almost every type of music, and bluegrass, especially live is awesome. Have a few toddies...you'll be cloggin or tryin to...Bet on it. As Steve Martin ( A very good banjo player ) said " You just can't play a sad song on the banjo."

Re: BlueGrass
Bluegrass like almost all other types of music I listen to has things that are great. I I love the twist that an artist can put on a song by doing something like changing the genre. I just don't like when an artist ONLY takes others songs. I feel it should be a mix of covers and originals. I hear to many covers today. I feel it says the artist doesn't have the confidence to be truly and completely original if they wont take that next step and create from scratch once in a while. Although it can also be interesting to take a song, make it your own in some way and a whole generation or group of people get introduced to something they might never have heard otherwise. Art in any form is a great thing. I wish they introduced more things like different genres in music in schools but it seems a struggle to keep art in any form in school these days. I bet most kids never heard of bluegrass.

Re: BlueGrass
I went and looked up Honeywagon. I saw that they had a video posted of Wild Horses by The Stones. Im thinkin "The Stones? Bluegrass? Oh what the hell, let's have a listen". I gotta admit, I didnt hate it. The tempo was noticeably quicker than the original, but that was ok. However, the solo was a mess. I thought when the mandolin kicked in that it was gonna save it, but it was too far gone.
A couple of years ago, I was at an open mic and suddenly found myself in the middle of an impromptu bluegrass jam session. One of the coolest things I've ever done. I've got the utmost respect for those players.

Re: BlueGrass
yep, i'm pretty sure all of Honeywagon's albums are each in tribute to some one, a Green Day one, a Blink 182, a Micheal Jackson (my favorite one so far), and even the Rolling Stones.

Re: BlueGrass
I once dabbled in some bluegrass, but parts of it withered and it went yellow. Now it's just green again...
