I was thinking about that before when you mentioned you were going out to go horse back riding. I pay a lot of money to go riding. I am going to be getting Kam to go riding in the desert with me in a few weeks when we go out to Arizona. I can't wait. I think he said he has never been riding before. I took my daughter on the same trail and all I heard for two hours was "OUCH MY ASS HURTS!" I couldn't stop laughing. I tried to tell her to relax her hips and move with the horse but she just kept giving me an evil glare.She did have fun though, because she wanted to go again the next day even though she was hurting. I am hoping Kam has a little better luck and less pain.I wont tell him about the rattle snakes and coyotes.

Yes women LOVE horses..Set Kams stirrups so he can just get his butt out of the saddle, that way its not so hard on the "boys"..slightly higher than you'd set yours, but not to high it hurts his knees after an hour.Also try and select a lighter framed taller horse so he won't sit to bow legged.You probably already know all this , but make his first ride one that won't raise his voice higher , and he may go on more of them with you.......hope your rides a good one.

Yes Kiss, to some extent. You should be on a horse appropriate to your size. You don't want to put a 250-300 pound person on a pony but you also don't want to put a 5'2" 95 pound girl on a horse the size of a Clydesdale.
Thanks for the info Syb. I would have forgotten the stirrup setting. I would have just measured him the same as I measure for me and that would be bad. I have long legs and don't need to have them as high as he would for obvious reasons as you stated. But the place I go,I would hope would have caught the mistake if I did it anyway.The good thing is it is a nice leisurely walk through the desert so he doesn't need to canter, trot or run. It would be dangerous in that environment anyway and I would never bring a first time rider on something like that.
This is really nice, you walk out to this restaurant as the sun is setting and you get the most beautiful views. Then you stop and have an great steak dinner. Then you walk back in the evening air for another hour walk back in the desert.Its a total of two hours of riding with a nice break in between and you would be hard pressed to find a prettier sunset than you see there at the top of the mountain.
I was half kidding about the rattle snakes and coyotes. We actually did see a rattle snake about 2 minutes into our ride but we just stopped and let it cross in front of my horse then went on. About five minutes later we saw this sad coyote that looked half starved. I really wish I had some food to give it but you can't really do that for their good as much as our own. Of course the Gila monsters and other desert animals were around as well. I like seeing animals in the wild where they belong. It means we haven't fucked up everything yet. My horse had a thing for rubbing his belly on creosote brushes however, so I had a bit of a tug of war going every time the horse saw one and wanted to head for it. It was fun and I like this place better than the other places I have tried out there.They take great care of the horses and their customers and the prices really aren't to bad.

a old Friend down the road had Belgians, talk about a big horse, they used them for pulling hay ride wagons and the sled in winter after the snowmoble trails close

I've been riding twice. The second horse was blind. So snake might be an issue.

I'll make sure your horse isn't blind. Although, I think even if it was it would hear the rattle.
