Do you have a clue?Do tell
How does our body produce this gentle warm feeling in our chest, when we experience emotions like happiness, love, compassion, etc?
Was in the store the other day standing in line, this little girl maybe 3-4 walks up to me,looks up gives me the biggest smile,I look down Smile back and she hugs my leg for everything she's worth,a few people looked on smiling thinking she was my little girl ,her mother had to peel her off me,as mom dragged her away she was looking back with such a sad pout.It gave me that feeling I described above, what a little sweetheart she was..
Anyways wondered what causes that to happen, its like a chemical reaction triggered by something,it was definitely strong.and definitely real. And it definitely touched me.

Re: Do you have a clue?Do tell
Your body reacts to many things that science has not even been able to fully understand. They have done brain and full body scans of people going through all kinds of things including having sex. I watched the show they did about that and I kept thinking HOLY SHIT that MRI machine doesn't allow much space. I wouldn't have an orgasm I would would have a panic attack! Anyway what they have found is that your mind reacts to different things in different ways and send signals to your body accordingly. No big shock there. But it was interesting to see what part of the brain gets triggered by different things. Example a cute puppy vs a horrible crime scene. Interestingly people have died of a " broken heart" from things like loosing a loved one. Scientist's are just starting to scratch the surface with this research. But they believe you can will yourself to get sick, or healthy and even die. When my father was very sick and they didn't know what else to do for him one of the experimental programs they had him in was basicly a "power of positive thinking" type of experiment. They also do these types of things for pain control. Basically they believe our mind is much more powerful and has capabilities that haven't been discovered yet.

Re: Do you have a clue?Do tell
The brain most certainly does influence the body. There has been some fascinating research done with painkillers and placebos.
1. Give a person in pain a painkiller and tell them it's a painkiller - pain is reduced.
2. Give a person in pain a placebo and tell them it's a painkiller - pain is reduced.
3. Give a person in pain a painkiller but don't tell them it's a painkiller - pain is NOT reduced.
I guess (1) and (2) are fairly obvious, but (3) is an amazing result! It appears the physiological response to a drug is significantly dependent on your expectations...

Re: Do you have a clue?Do tell
I definitly buy what Kss left as a reply.
What triggers those warm human but pure chemical biological responses in us?
I've read that the young of most species draw a response from us due to some facial features that seem exaggerated. Large round eyes, round faces on a head that seems to larger in proportion to the body. I can believe that, maybe it's to evoke empathy and bonding between adults and the weaker dependant young.

You can give out all the scientific explanations you want, we are a protective species, and human children sense things that adults have lost somewhere along the line of growing up, what you experianced was absolute innocence, she had no fear of you, and there was a comfort there for her.It happens to me all the time as well, old dogs and children love me, and I have no clue why , perhaps the young mind of a child that is not clouded by outside influences can read the fact that you are not a threat, and move into your personal space for protection, and your natural instincts would kick in....or perhaps it's just the fact that she trusted, and that is sadley something that has become very rare.

I also only seem to be able to attract old dogs these days...

Re: Do you have a clue?Do tell
It is rare, Sybie. I'm sure very soon this adorable child too will have be taught to fear adults and strangers.
Just as sad is that a stranger who pays attention to a child is less of a warm hearted person and more of a suspect of something dark.
During my younger years, raised in a small town where we knew everyone, we were still taught not to trust a stranger. I do however remember being taught not to go near a certain man's house and always warned not to go near him at any time. This was in a tiny town where where everyone knew who the dirty old man was, who was the town mean drunk, who was the town slut , etc...
What One experienced is a rare thing, a child who has not been taught to fear other humans yet.
