Since this was part of my job I will stop at these . But you are doing exactly what we would do with clients who would wonder if advertising works. We would either say slogans or catch phrases and ask who's they were or ask them to say a few slogans or catch phrases. It always came back as "Yes I guess people really do remember these ads"

People are much more likely to buy a product they are familiar with it. Name/brand recognition is key to selling anything. However if the product turns out to be crap then remember these days more than ever before, people will get the word out the product sucks. So I always told my client to have realistic expectations and a great service or product.People feel if they see a product on TV then it has more creditably and the company doesn't seem small or fly by night. As opposed to a news payer ad or flier. They don't have as much credibility or power as TV, but if you do a comprehensive media campaign with TV, online, newspaper, yellow pages, radio, mail etc.then you really have the public thinking "They must be reliable, they wont shut down tomorrow they are a big company.What ever you use has to fit the product or service you are selling. All this and a need for your product or service even if you have to create a need is how it's done.
That's how the ball game is played & that's what gets the people to buy........Marketing 101
