What happened to treating women like ladies?
I've been opening doors for women , pulling out chairs for them to sit down, or taking my hat off, if I'm wearing one, when introduced,since I was old enough to date. Lately I've noticed that, when I do these things it's usually met with a little surprise, and a definate smile......Why?

How old are they 18? 20? over 30?
A man who is aggressive, muscular, and impulsive generally has a higher level of testosterone.
A woman who is very feminine, hourglass figure, clear complexion, optimal breast development (if there is such a thing) has a higher level of estrogen and lower levels of testosterone.
Maybe you are dealing with girls, or women, (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), who have higher levels of testosterone.

They are all ages, and at a bank ,or store of some kind, I'll just open a door for them to pass through before I do,and they seem surprised that a stranger would do that for them......and I don't notice if they have a pronounced adams apple or hair on their knuckles, though the more curves they have, the quicker I am to swing the door.

My point exactally, why would they be surprised? Has our society lost its manners, that when someone is courteous to another human being they are surprised? I find that when I go to a large city, and walk among the masses common courteousy isn't as common as it used to be. ...and yes Kiss some are girls, others are women, if she's got boobs I'll hold the door open, but you already knew that.

I blame women for this as much as men. Yes, it has a few components that add to the surprise factor. 1)Parents seen to have forgotten to teach manners. My kids open doors or say please and thank you and I have seen the strangest reaction. I think it is sad that manners seem to be the exception not the rules these days. 2)There are women out there that for some reason I still can't comprehend think , if a man opens a door, pulls out a chair etc. it seems to say that the man thinks they are incapable and therefore a demeaning thing to women. In my opinion THAT'S JUST STUPID!!!
Politically correct everything, walking on eggshells because people have lost their sense of humor all adds to this. The general state of stress that everyone seems to be in with recent issues in the world hasn't helped either. I have had a family member say to me that she lives by the following statement these days "If you expect the worst from people you can never be disappointed. If they show you their best it's always a pleasant surprise." As sad as that is she is correct.

Probably the same thing that has stopped some of them behaving like ladies.
In a drive for equality it would appear that some women feel the need to be abusive, swear and drink themselves into a stupor so they too can be seen lying in their own pool of vomit at Midnight.
Equality shouldn't mean normalization of the worst behaviours!

Oh crap. I did not know there were any if thise pics of my x still circulating. Guess I must stiil be in the stone age, as I always hold doors for ladies, etc. But when another guy reachs an entrance or exit at the same time, I normally step aside, let him go first, as I am never in a hurry anyway.

I agree Chunky,but its getting so everywhere has its own hardships with there social landscapes.All we can do is keep on being ourselves and hope our good manners generate a goor return at some point( A polite Thank You with a smile).I am old fassioned so I always hold a ladies chair,open doors for her,use my jacket to shelter her from wind or rain.Ill never change so I will try to only surround myself with those I fit well with,I alway attempt to greet everyone with a polite smile and friendly greeting.I encounter alot of fine ladies near me that do enjoy a polite friendly man ..

I'm from NY and live in NJ. It is everywhere. I also see that there are those ,like my kids who know how to act in public and treat people correctly. I do you want you to know that there are women out there that appreciate well mannered gentleman. I also think its worse to see a drunk nasty unkempt women than almost anything. I get embarrassed for them.

Snooki is living proof that anyone can write a book, direct, act [if we dare to call it that], without being able to string a sentence together. Perhaps Snooki's agents are just trying to prove that the Kardashians actually are not a one time fluke in the world of entertaiment, you see Snookie is kind of a do-over, just to see if they could pull it off again.All you need to do is watch Entertainment Tonight, to realize how ridiculous these people really are....But I'd still hold a door open for them....

Just the other day, I got yelled at for holding the door for this woman. She looked about my age and she let me have it with both barrels. "I didn't intend for having some fucking jerk like you to hold the door for me! We women were in a thing called, "Women's Lib" maybe you stopped dragging your girlfriend around by the hair to notice it, you stupid caveman...moron?!" Apparently, the alternative isn't pretty either. I let go of the door, and not expecting it, it slammed into her face sending her landing on her ass on the ground outside. Then I was an even bigger jerk for letting go. Some days you just can't win, I guess...

This is a point I have tried to make over and over. Why would you expect men to know what we want when lunatics like this are on the loose. What I feel this moronic women missed is that "womens lib" had nothing to do with having a man open a door for us. It wasn't because we didn't want a man to do it. It was so that men would know we are capable of doing it our selves if we chose. There is a difference. Just like being a stripper or hooker does not demean us as women or people in general. Being forced into being a stripper or hooker does. Just as being forced into anything would.We wanted to get paid the same if we did the same job. By the way that still is not a reality in most professions.I also don't want standards lowered for me because I am a women. If a fireman needs to lift 250 pounds as part of the job then the person getting the job weather a man or women should have to lift that 250 pounds.Equality should mean EQUAL not lower.If someone scores higher on a test that is used to get a job or into a school then the person with the highest score should get it if that is the criteria . Don't say well we need 5 more women so even though the man scored higher we will hire or accept the women. That's just stupid! But none of the "women's lib" stuff said if someone is nice and opens a door for you, you should be a rude bitch!
For the record Men can be just as stupid about it. I have had men say "You all wanted to be equal so open your own doors" and slam doors in peoples faces. Or I have opened a door and had others walk in front of me and through it as if I was their personal doorman. I even have had many people reach into a freezer or refrigerator door when I have opened it for my self to get something as if I'm invisible. My response: YES I will be happy to slam your arm and/or head in it when you do that to me! Even Gloria Steinem would call many of these women today stupid bitches!

try blocking the door with your body when opening the cooler it get that a lot too getting milk at kwik rip but that don't mean i don't hold the door for someone my self ... i even have guys holding the door for me , i think more for the Mrs though, and i do the same but what pisses me is someone cutting in on ya. and as for jobs and pay everyone should get a fair share regardless of who they are ...and i know i now suffer from 30 years of huffing everyone appliances around .
