Money sense.
As stated from the "...Quote" thread, money management topic. I do not claim, by any streach, to be an expert on the topic, so I appreciate others input, to make me even more chea... I mean, a better money manager. First installment: I believe most all of do this, price shop. I am not a fanaticabout it, but very consious. At the grocery store, generic products, are about the same, as paying for brand names. Simple, logical. Example, the Kroeger brand of peanut butter, is in fact, Skippy, just packed the Kroeger label, but cheaper than Skippy.

Re: Money sense.
Live, like you are broke. And as financial whiz Dave Ramsey says, "Live like no one else, and you will live like no one else." When my foriegn luxury car broke down 12 years ago, I thought it was the end of the world. Was a blessing in disquise. I started riding the city bus to work, and I was the boss. No shame in my game. One morning on the bus, I glanced at a car and the thought came to me, "You are driving your money, mines in the bank." Even though I had 3 vehicles at once, I dont miss them, and life is less stressful in top of it.

Re: Money sense.
I haerd this one, long after I had lived it. Pay yourself first. When you get your pay, scrape off whatever you are comfortable with, call it a bill, and save it, like clock work. Which brings me to this point. Be aware of the difference, from what you NEED, and what you want. Break it down. You NEED, a roof over your head, and food, basic. After your other basics, including utilities, not much mire you need. From a radio talk show host who shared that he visited mens boarding house, where a multi millionaire lived. He was curious as to why he lived there, alluding to the fact he could be living in style, the man told him, you can only wear one set of clothes at a time (excluding me, lol), and eat one meal at a time. Those facts, sticks with me and trust me I have a good quality if life.

Re: Money sense.
Huh, 4:30 a.m., been up since 2 a.m. I really dont expect anyone else to be up yet, lol. Well, now that you have saved your money, have what you need, some of what you want, whatever you buy, pay cash. So many ppl, to keep up appearances, or, thats just how its done, are in some heavy debt, and slaves to thier jobs. They HAVE to make the monet they do, or run the risk of losing it. But with the money you have saved, pay cash for things. Be patient, in time you will get them. Always in your mind, you will be thinking, "I own it." no creditors, no collection agency can take it away from you. And on top if that, no stress, and peace of mind. Now I think I will take a short nap. Later.

Re: Money sense.

I am guilty of having too much stuff, and duplicates of stuff. "you can only wear one suit at a time". It is bad when you don't know what you do have or can't locate it. Plus, in many people's opinion, things will not be getting better any time soon. Also having too much stuff makes moving a bitch.

Re: Money sense.
Material things are not important, ppl are. You can get more money and stuff, "Thats so simple, even a caveman can do it." Oops, wrong thread. Try getting back ppl who have "Left the building", Elvis style, and then try to convince me whats more important. You lose!

Re: Money sense.
Yes I think its easy to fall into the to much stuff trap.I was moving things when I helped me ex pack and move, found an Acoustic Guitar I had bought a few years back, and I had to really think about where the hell did I get this Guitar.Totally forgot I had bought it,got busy working and set it in the closet. It made me ponder this very topic,How much is to much,if you buy something and set it aside and forget about it did you really need it.So when my Nephew was Jonesing to borrow a Guitar,i seen it was a perfect Opportunity and just give it to him, sure made that kid smile . .

Now that I'm single and living without the extreme pressures of the past yrs,I live a different lifestyle ,I only buy what I need for the week.I Dont obsess over money, its dirty nasty stuff that brings out the worste in some ,in fact if i didnt need it to live I could care less about it and would be fine without it.Unfortunately we cant live without it,the good news is your perspective perve makes it easier to live with..

Re: Money sense.
Thx one. Someone told me a while back, that if you have not used soething for a year, you really dont need it. I take it a step further, you prbably did not need it in the first place. Which brings. To this point, and sorry ladies, most, not all, are impulse shoppers. End cap items at grocery stores, do not make them on sale, or a bargain, as do the crap in display at the check out lines as well. That stuff is there, especically for impulse shopping. Most men, not all, have a need, go to the store, have the blinders on, get thier crap, and get out. I am the one who goes to grocery store, for something(s) specically, and its "Get in, get the hell outta my way, I am on a mission, and did not want ti be there in the first place" attitude. That money spent without thinking, really adds up.

Re: Money sense.
Powdered milk. I dont drink enough milk, and it went bad before I finish it, milk in cartons, is more expensive. It is an aquired taste, but I use it in all my baking too, and I cannot tell any difference. I make only a day or two worth of milk, that way I dont waste it, and saved I know, dollars over a years time. Baking soda. I found a few months back, baking soda at Walmart, 2.12, for a 4 pound box. About half the price if the smaller size. I use a lot of it in kitty litter. You are welcome.

Re: Money sense.
Just talking to Chazzy, and reminded me of another rule of mine, if you dont have the money, you cannot afford it. Accept buying a house, but with in your means. I was fortunate in that before retiring very early, my last job in yet another supervisolial (cannot spell it, but wasded one) position, and it brought me a good "personal return". Even at that, had to be patient, live like I was broke, and paid cash for my little place. No, by most "standards", whatever the hell that is, my is not much, but paid for, its a roof, and its mine. No one can take it away.

Re: Money sense.
Ok boys and girls. One of the best leasons I can share is this quote. Dont have a clue where it came from, but here it is. "Success is, living your life the way you want. Success means different things to different people." I have known homeless ppl (no comment), who are successfull, and "well to do" ppl, who are not successfull. Nuff said. "Let he that hath an ear, let him hear." I really dont know, or care who I am quoting, nor do I care.

Re: Money sense.
Hey Chunkster. Things will get better, hang in there. I dont eat steak, hell, not when I can tweek hamburger like I can. When I was a kid, we had meat maybe once a week. Our dinner a lot of times was a couple slices of bread, with flour gravy. Just recently, I thanked my mother, for doing the best she could to feed us. Being dirt poor then, sure came in handy a few short years ago when I found myself with less than nothing. It is an attitude thing, call it karma if you want, I call it something else, but makes a difference in your life. Be positive, you will be alright.

Re: Money sense.
Wanna save some money? I got some Boaxo to make homade laundry soap. Google it. Read the box, found other uses for it. One was washing dishs. Had a coffee cup with stains that I could not wash off. Used Boraxo, stains were gone. I was sold, its all I use now, and cheap. Disposible razors. Shave, wash them out in water, use a tooth brush on them, use one for a week. Just a couple little thimgs. As I was in buisiness, pennies saved, add up to dollars. Quality of life, in tact.
