DNS changer malware check up July 9
I'm sure ya'all have already seen or heard of the July 9th deadline for checking your computer for the DNS changer malware but we'll post this reminder anyway.
There are still an estimated 70,000 computers infected in the US alone. The FBI has been running servers to re-direct internet traffic away from the hacker's servers, but the FBI will be shutting down those redirecting servers July 9th leaving unchecked and infected computers with no internet access.
Posting any website urls are not allowed but I'm making an exception for this. The link will alert you if your computer is one of the infected ones and further guide you to what on to do if it is.

Re: DNS changer malware check up July 9
From what I've heard, they believe they have found and dismantled all the hacker's servers, but once they (FBI) shut off their re-directing servers, those still infected (apporx. 70,000 in the US)will just get a "Page cannot be found" when they try to access the internet.
Those living somewhere other than the US can still use the link and look for the homepage link and find the check up link for your country there.

Re: DNS changer malware check up July 9
Normally when I see these types of posts they turn out to be bogus. I did check it out and there is a serious threat although not big as first thought. Thanks for the heads up. I had gotten an email about this about 5 minutes prior to reading your post. Most of these things are made up threats and spread like wildfire I guess for once it was real.
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: DNS changer malware check up July 9
So thats been the problem all this time. Server was re directed, the doom a hitchi was mis construed, and zinging the watcha mu call it all outta kilter. In order to fix this damn thing a ma jig, the signal needs to bounce yonder to outter space, off venus at a 36 degree angle in turn off the dark side of the moon. Now the signal is all good, and we can return to our regular programming. See, the repair was that simple. Or, it could really be (say its not true), the ole perve could be in error? Screw it, I cannot tell a server, from any other computer stuff. Had ya all going for a minute though huh?

They nipped this one in the butt very quickly. Chances are most people's computers are fine. Although things would have been fixed much faster if they didn't do the redirect stuff..
BTW, some recent law changes everyone should be aware of, your ISP is now required to monitor your internet activity and report suspicious behavior. Thanks to Obama and his executive order that illegally forced SOPA into law...

Re: DNS changer malware check up July 9
Surely, I would never ever post anything like this without thoroughly checking it out and being very certain it was real.
I even made sure that the topic title was good for a copy and paste so anyone in doubt looking for more detailed information could search it out easily.

Freedom is important. All sorts of people already monitor everything online. Most aren't out to do you any good. So, why not the Fed. It was gonna happen.

All I know is the government is pudding off the hackers in a major way. Do not be surprised if you start hearing about some hacks that do some really crazy stuff.
Also, the hacker group anonymous is actually composed of multiple groups, only one of them abuses the public face, the rest of them are truly anonymous.

That's probably the only thing I really like about my Linux. It's really hard to release a virus on and/or hack into. Not worth anyone's trouble over. That's why hackers use it to launch viruses on you windows folks...

Re: DNS changer malware check up July 9
Actually, linux is open source, so it has the most loose code of the three operating systems. The reason it has so few viruses is due to its lack of popularity and the fact that there's no cohesive build amongst all users.
