Who Cares?
Niagara Falls is about 20 miles away from me and tomorrow night, Nik Walenda is walking across The Falls on a wire. All over the local media, all we hear about is how this is going to bee such a boon to the local economy and how the hotels and restaurants are looking forward to the huge profits, should he wear a harness or not, blah, blah, blah. My personal opinion is that they're going to be sadly disappointed. I doubt that theres that much interest. I would never drive that short distance to see this circus side show and I doubt that theres going to be people infiltrating the city from other States and Canada either. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm just being cynical, but I think the whole thing is WAY overblown.

Odd, and it does seem like a side show, a thing of the past. How do you get a permit for something like this? And, I highly doubt I would go. The first time I ever watched high diving, the poor boy jumped off the diving board, smacked his head, hit the water and never moved again. It was very sad.
No, I don't think this event will bring a huge surge to the economy.

Oh, the permits took months to get approved. There were the US and Canadian permits, State of New York and Province of Ontario permits and Niagara Falls NY and Niagara Falls ON. That went on for months trying to get it all approved

he comes from a family of Daredevils... the Flying Wolenda's were huge at one point. sadly, that type of sideshow has kinda went away. too many restrictions and regulations. i'm really surprised that there hasn't been a reality tv show based on his family yet. or some cable television station hasn't agreed to air the stunt on live tv.

Ugh, Blaine, Copperfield, Cris Angel...annoying. The Walendas do have that family history, yet...no, would not go see in person. Never like a circus just because of keeping the exotic animals in captivity.
Now Cirque du Soleil, whoa...would love to go see that.

Did I read this event is to be televised over ABC television? So don't understand if televising it how this will draw a large crowd of actual viewers to watch in person?

The Mayor of Niagra Falls Ontario claimed today that this event will bring approx. 90 million in tourism to the general area,both in general revenue and future tourism traffic....of course if he takes a fall , he claimed that may have negetive effects.......freakin poloticians

well since its niagara it may draw a few,like the old lets go over the falls in a barrel trick lol, not a great idea in my eyes.But its amazing people will likely flock it a little ..

. Just a guess, but my calculations, he would either be right at 122 today, or, he did not make the 'Barrel over the falls olympics', of 1891. Yes I know, call me crazy. On second thought, he may have been a star, in some alternate olympic games.

Just seen about this. Seems that that family needs some publicity. Things like this don't happen much now. Not much interest in it.
They showed how he's been training for it. Being sprayed by firetruck, and extra high speed fans to simulate the wind.
Wouldn't go to see it. It'll all be very well documented anyways.

An estimated crowd of 125,000 people on the Canadian side and 4,000 on the American side watched Wallenda's stunt Friday night.... HMMM?!
ABC's sponsorship to help offset some of the $1.3 million cost of the spectacle.
"Oh, my gosh, it's an unbelievable view," an utterly calm-sounding Wallenda said as he walked over the edge of the falls. "I am so blessed to be in the position I am _ to be the first person in the world to be where I am."
"This is what dreams are made of, people," Wallenda said.

When a few years ago, I fell off a ladder, now even a 6 foot ladder freaks me. I do not believe that little stroll he did, would be on my agenda. I just scratched that little jaunt off my to do list.

It took many years for this to even b e set up. Niether the US noe Canada wanted to allow this. It's something he said he wanted to do since he was 8 yearss old.
I think it's great he finially got to accomplish this.
Pretty amazing thing in my book.
