Did you drink the Kool Aid?
Anybody buy FaceBook stock when it went public? So far, it looks like the only people that made money from it are Zuckerberg and friends. Seems like the media liked it better than Wall Street. Debuted at $38 a share, went up to $45 and closed yesterday at $34. And yes, uncertainty over Greece's debt problems in particular probably factored into it's performance. Its only been available for a few days, but it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
Its somewhat reminiscent of AOL in the late 90's and early 2000's. It was valued at around $226 billion in 2001 by 2006, it had fallen to about $20 billion. Nothing wrong with a company being worth $20 billion, but that was one helluva drop!

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
Yep. According to the paper, it was the bank who handled the IPO that bought a load of the shares initially so that the IPO wouldn't be seen as a failure! Then as they released them onto the market the price tanked 11%
Good!

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
I always said that I wanted one share of certain stocks as they went public Microsoft, Disney and FB. But strictly for fun, not value.Very few really expected FB to do well for many reasons. One question about value was, if its ad based and the studies show that most people that use it rarely if at all click on the ads, then how much growth potential was really there? That is a huge question! Of course the fact the GM pulling all their ads days before trading started on FB didn't help the concerned.
Funny that GM has also pulled their ads from the Superbowl as well sighting the same reason as pulling from FB. Having a backround in TV advertising I can tell you that it is totally different. Advertising in the Superbowl is not the same as other advertising. It is to create interest and talk about your commercial not to expect higher sales like you would expect from your advertising campaign as a whole. There is also the bragging rights type of mentality of the Superbowl ads. "Our ad was voted best or funniest" or " We are playing with the big boys because we payed $3 million for that 30 second spot."

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
Closed today at under $31/share. Now theyre saying that there was an accounting glitch and it shouldnt have opened as high as it did and people are calling for those who invested to sue the NASDAQ. Fasten your seat belts, this ride has just begun.

I recall when I lived in Washington, 14 years old, riding on the back of choppers, through the northern mountains, and drinking Cowboy Lemonade. (Vodka mix). Those ppl knew how to PARTY! Ya, I damn sure drank the "kool ade".

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
How can they sue? Did someone twist their arms to buy. It's all opinion when they say what something is worth. I don't feel they should be able to sue. That is the way this country is now. If you don't like the fact that you did something stupid sue and blame someone else.
If anyone was paying attention to all the talk about FB, then you would have heard about all the uncertainty and questions regarding the price and about how many shares would or should be sold. The plain fact that there was so much confusion and constant changing of opinions should have been a red flag. This could have gone either way. You know if they made a mistake and undervalued this stock and people made a fortune that people who got the stock at a cheap price would be dancing.A bunch or stupid sore losers if you ask me.If they can't play this game they shouldn't be in it at all.

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
They cann't sue. They all knew the risk going in and the brokers aren't liabel.
Those calling for legal action are probably that lost thier ass with the "dot coms"

The report I saw was that investors wanted to pursue all options to recoup the losses they incurred, based on misinformation that was given prior to the purchase.

I think the only way they could win this is if they could prove they INTENTIONALLY or THEY WERE NEGLIGENT and misled the public. They can't sue for stupidity. If they could they courts would be overwhelmed. OH Wait they are!

It seems the issue is that they claim only the "Elite 1%" were told the real truth and that's why they are suing. Now all the sleazy lawyers are lining up to take whatever cash there is to be made from this. Win or loose the only winners are always the lawyers.

Re: Did you drink the Kool Aid?
The Today show had a sign on a "wall" while discuassing this with two people this am. It said, "unfriending Facebook"
I think this goes to prove that no matter what thee rules or regualtions are, Wall Street people wil do what they want.

I love class action lawsuits. I get into a lot of them. I'm waiting for the day when the lawyers lose so bad that I receive a monetary bill for my part in the suit...

Never needed a glass for my whiskey either. Now, maybe will have a few shooters, 2 to 3 times around bed time, and my happy ass just goes to sleep. Its a good balance, as some know here, although retired, I have other responsibilities now. Change of life plans, gonna die on the job at home, rather than keeling over elsewhere.
