Fixed incomes
I have often wondered about the term "Fixed income". Not to sound insensitive, but I just do not get it when I hear the term "But I am on a fixed income". I do understand they are fefering to not much money. But on the flip side, a fixed income can be a good thing. And I realize the income may be anything from annuity, s.s., or anything else to get a monthly check, guenteed. Think about it. You know exactly what you get each month, you know how to manage it, and does not depend on you doing anything for it. If you are sick, no need to be concerned about missing work, you still get paid. No clock to punch, and you have no fear of being layed off. Now, you know what to plan on. In September, I will receiving monthy checks, that will be a just an additional part of a fixed income. Not to sound like I am bragging, but I am a hell of a money manager, and what others would label as cheap as hell too. So in my situation, most of my, if not all, new fixed income, will go to savings. All that crap aside, and with my b

I am a late bloomer when it comes ti money matters. Debt up to my ears, then lost EVERYTHING twice, to the clothes (dont laugh, ha ha) on my back, literally. Now I, as the old saying goes, I paraphrase, " I have done so much, with so little, for so long, I am now qualified, to do anythimg, with nothing". I would make Jack Benny.com look like a spend thrift. lol

Re: Fixed incomes
I can feel for people on fixed incomes. Many subsist on Social Security (which hadn't gone up for 2 years even though medicare premiums did), and other annuities, which may or may not increase with inflation. Many have to choose between eating and getting their medications...or even eating cat food. When was the last time you paid over $600 for medications (my mouth fell open when I went to pick up a prescription for my mother)?
If you have enough of your fixed income coming in every month to live comfortably and do what you want, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Luck, or just turn of events, got me where I am today, but what it took for me to get my head out of my ass, I would not wish in ANYONE. But was the best thing for me. Yes, I have more time left for shit to happen in my life, but with my experiences alone, I will not be jumping off the 10th floor should it all cave in.

Re: Fixed incomes
This is a big subject where I live. We have over 75% seniors. I have to say my circumstances have changed so much so unexpectedly that it was scary as hell when it did.I had made it to a point where I was making six figures and starting to be able to put money away. I was pretty good at it. Unfortunately I had a bad situation with my then husband. I also had a major car accident that took me out of work. One month after my then husband totaled his new car.So I went from living quit comfortably to on permanent disability and got separated and headed for divorce about the same time. He also liked to get credit cards without telling me. I also had my daughter going through open heart surgery at that time. I'm sure you can imagine the bills even with having two insurance companies.
When I separated my then husband was supposed to be paying the mortgage (being he wasn't paying anything else.)It turned out he didn't pay that either.Well to make a very long story somewhat short, I found myself broke in debt and living on a very limited budget with three young children and a mortgage while I was still in my thirties. Definitely not in my life plane! My legal bill alone from my divorce was over $35,000. My ex said he was going to make sure that I had nothing and he did.I even lost my life insurance due to a really bad lawyer. I love when other lawyers say I have a good case against her if I want to fight and sue her. The problem is you need money to do that and with no guarantee I would win.It gets even more involved but I wont go into that..I also had a lawyer at the start of my accident case who fucked up and lets just make this short and say I would have been very wealthy if I had fired him a bit earlier in the case. Yet again I could sue but need money to do that , even thou I had a few attorneys that would love that case.
The bottom line is no matter how good you are with money if you don't have it to pay the necessary things you just don't have it. I also found that when you are out on disability you qualify for many government programs most of the same ones as seniors. The problem is they don't tell you what they are or that you qualify for them. They also don't mail you shit because your not a senior. So you can and go years not knowing about programs to help cut costs. Most of the seniors around here have no mortgage, no college to pay for, no teenagers driving so an astronomical insurance rate, no school books and clothes to buy etc.. I challenge any of them to live on what I do and raise three kids. Oh, and that lovely state insurance they have for my youngest. Yeah, try to find a doctor to take it. The response I get is "sorry we know we are on the list for that insurance but we wont except new patients because they don't pay us!" Even her primary care doctor who used to take it stopped. I have no way to make more money and yet the bills keep going up.
In the last two years I had my transmission die and I replaced it only for it to die a year later and the place that did it went out of business. So no car. My central AC died (and I have to have ac for health reasons).Thank god Kam was able to help with that. Then my refrigerator died and I had to get a new one, my washer, dryer, dishwasher (My kids just replaced that with a used one),wells pressure switch, hot water heater and furnace all followed.Furnace and water heater just got replaced.Again Kam helped with much of that and my son was able to fix some of them. And now I have a gaping hole in my fucking roof and squirrels decided to move in and eat at the rafters. Exactly how am I supposed to do all this on a fixed income? Please someone enlighten me.You can't plan for this shit. Anyone want to buy my house? I hate it!
You don't want to even get me started on my medical bills or my kids medical bills.
Aren't you sorry you started this now Perve?
