I am fortunate to live in the dessert. Only thing I would need to be concerned about, is others visiting me in my air conditioning during our coming months of heat, and "bugging" me.

Re: tick season
Aw, I've been spider a couple of times, was terribly ill for a couple of weeks the first time (most likely a black widow), the second time (brown recluse) it was just an annoying little spot, an immediate trip to the doc and pharm and I was just fine. Haven't been snake bit which surprises me really (yes, Knocking on wood)

I'm spring cleaning right now, taking care of a spare room that turned into storage, emptying closets and such, running across the remains of the brown recluse. It's just something you know to watch for, like Texans and their scorpions...you have to always be aware of the possibility.

Re: tick season

Well, Blondie got her 5 or 6 snake today. I've lost count. Her and Copper stood over the dead snake, growling at one another.

Copper got hold of it, and it took me half an hour
chasing her to get hold of it and over the fence. Then SOMEHOW, after I let them out and she had it again? So, there was another chasse after her to get the snake.

I just managed to eat lunch, when guess what? A damn bird flew into the house with Mutt and Jeff, chasing. I managed to get Copper outside and lasso Blonde. I will say, this was a smart bird. In minutes it flew out the front door.

Now, I am hot, dirty, my clothes are sticking to me, and I'm tired. But, I have wine and chocolate!

We have ticks , mosquitoes, chiggers, and brown recluse spiders as well as many other nasty things.Having been a girl scout leader and a boy scout leader i have had to learn and deal with more of these things than I ever wanted too. Did i mention I am petrified of bugs?

I also live in the a place that has an abundance of all these things and contrary to what most believe ticks as well as the rest of these disgusting things are actually around all year. Mosquitoes not so much. And it is a myth that chiggers burrow under you skin and stay there. They bite. They will stay on the outside of the skin however. I know this because I had the misfortune of having to pickup the entire boy scout troop from school after a camping weekend, they all went to school . I was the on call mom for almost all of them because I had a flexible schedule. The nurse called me and told me the whole troop was in her office with the chicken pox! I knew my son had already had that TWICE so the chances were slim. It turned out the boys camped right on a nest of chiggers! After the kids were freaking out because they were told if they had chiggers they would be under their skin we found out from the doctor that they don't really do that. They didn't believe the doctor so we even checked on line to calm them and the parents down.We had an encounter with them at a nature walk as well when we came out the kids legs were covered with these tiny little bugs with tweezers. At the time I thought they must be tiny ticks. We removed dozens from each of the boys. It turns out they were chiggers. I still shiver thinking about it.

Mosquitoes around here are referred to as Jersey Bombers for a reason as well.As for ticks I think everyone I know has been tested for limes disease at least once and many unfortunately have had it. Trust me when I say you want to avoid it if possibly. OK now I am all itchy just from thinking about this. YUK!

Re: tick season
We had no hickory nuts last year, not a single one which is rare, the squirrels had to settle for acorns.

Got quite a few bumble bees, they love the mock orange bush in my front yard.

Been seeing a lot of red fox so far, they are everywhere ya look.
