Re: bad dreams
Has it always been this way, or since you've moved?
Any changes can bring on dreams, new rug, fresh paint, etc...also any vapors, dust, gases a house can give off or something enviromental with the land.

Any diet changes, new meds, supplements or herbs can be responsible.

Sometimes dreams are just your mind trying to solve things, fix problems. Look up "Dream symbolism" and see if that doesn't explain a few things.

If you do feel it may be something spiritual, burning sage sticks are usually the first choice for house cleansing.

Re: bad dreams
Hi Ashkats as I mentioned earlier I have nightmares on occation the kind that wake me sweating and breathing hard, with the deer in the headlights feeling,I havent heard from my cherokee buddy yet but thought I would share the something I stumbled onto.Im sick to death of these shitty dreams too and feel for you.

Find a happy place. You don't need to literally surf the globe, and find a happy place. You can make one up, or base it on a nice place you've been to. No matter what or where it is, just make sure it's calm and relaxing. Also make sure that you don't tell anyone who you don't want appearing there where it is, or else they'll appear in your dream and mess things up. To better visualize your happy place in your dreams, draw a picture.

Think happy thoughts. Right before bed, think of extremely happy and nice things happening to you, like flying in the clouds. You should also imagine yourself in your happy place having fun. As soon as something bad begins happening, force yourself awake. Soon, the bad thoughts will disappear.

Talk to someone about your dreams. Find someone who you trust, and explain your dreams. Also explain to them why they scare you. Just letting your feelings out makes things better. You can write this in a Dream Journal, but be aware that sometimes it helps to explain it to someone who you know is listening. Some people can get away with talking to a scarecrow, while others need someone who deeply understands the topic and gives feedback. See what works for you, and regularly explain your nightmares to this person. After a while, they should go away.

Attempt to manipulate your nightmare. Some people are better at this than others. See if you can make certain things happen in your dreams, and once you get good at this, you should be able to make the frightening things go away. Don't get frustrated with this, because it comes faster to some people than others. Relax and take your time.

Relax. Nightmares can also be caused by stress, such as wondering if you will get a job or not. Let go of your worries, and begin having happy dreams again. You can relax by either meditating, or having a nice day at the beach. Just make sure it's a quiet area where you can relax and chill out.

I know some of this sounds to simple to help, but in reality our minds are so complex we( humans) still know little about our brains capability.

Personally I have used meditation to find the happy place,i have a great Imgination and find it does work, but its also hard to do this if your surounded by skeptics, and with all the negative stuff the seems to find us in the world it seems hopeless sometimes to stay in the happyplace.

Not sure If I can ever loose the shitty dreams all together but I intend on learning more about how to,lots of people suffer from this infliction..And personally Im am sick of the loss of sleep.

Re: bad dreams
There are medically documented sleep disorders too. Like night terrors and sleep paralysis.

These are way more than just nightmares and bad dreams.
I had one episode of the sleep paralysis, it was absolutely terrifying.

I look up dream symbolism for any vivid dreams, it's amazing how your mind tries to work out your stresses while you sleep.

Just being mindful of what you watch on TV in the evening can help.

Re: bad dreams
Yeah, I like the TV set on a timer, and fall asleep to an awesome documentary narrated type of show, anything about the space and universe, or ancient archeology/anthropology.
Something narrated, one main soothing voice, volume low enough I have to lay perfectly still to listen, it's like a hypnosis thing.

I've thought about audio books too. Sound machines can be really nice too.

Re: bad dreams
It's weird, but we don't "speak" the same language as our dreaming brain does. I'd still encourage her to look up dream symbolism.

Once you know what the brain is trying to tell you, the nightmares could stop. If you look up those symbols, the dreams aren't that scarey, it's just your brain trying to help you work out stuff.

Re: bad dreams

This is where the "bad dreams" post is. I have been having wild dreams. The other night of a small giraffe, or dragon? I gave it some motor oil, or water to drink and it's face set on fire. Then we left it the garage to take a naap, and it had a mouse lying next beside him.

Then last night, I dreamt I went to see a friend and he had a 5 story house in like a spiral. You could look straight up and see the top floor. Then I took a tour of the house. The walls were painted various colors, and small areas were decorated with very comfortable furnishings.

Re: bad dreams
came across this maybe will help someone..

Bad dreams plague everyone from time to time. To know how to treat them, it helps to know the physiological causes of your nightmares. There are prescription medicines to ease sleep but they often come with unwanted side effects and treat only the symptoms of sleep disturbance. If you treat the problem that causes the nightmares with herbs and vitamins, you treat the symptom, the bad dreams themselves.
Low dopamine levels could be the culprit. Dopamine provides pleasant feelings in order to entice people to perform the behaviors again which caused the rise in dopamine. It rewards activities such as eating and sex. Low dopamine levels in the brain cause people with a REM sleep behavior disorder, in which they act out their dreams, to have the most violent dreams. So it follows that if you're dreaming that someone is going to hurt you, or you are hurting someone else, it could be that your brain is producing too little dopamine.

If you are having violent types of bad dreams, dopamine levels can be increased by upping your intake of B vitamins. Common herb remedies such as drinking chamomile tea, putting lavender essential oils in the bath or drinking peppermint tea also may help. Powdered lavender can also be burned like incense. Peppermint is most often eaten in cookies or candy but can also be used in a crockpot roast. Chamomile can be put into a bath, infused into baby shampoo, used in water to rinse hair, or put into a foot soak. In extreme cases of nightmares try Kava Kava or Valerian root, both of which can be found online or at your health food store, but take them at bedtime because they can make you sleepy.

Medical studies also show that bad dreams involving pain, fear or anxiety can be caused by stomach problems. This may be why eating right before bed seems to cause bad dreams, because you experience poor digestion when you fall asleep on a full stomach. These stomach problems can be caused by fear in waking life and in your dreams, which creates a vicious cycle of gastric upset and bad dreams.

Increase the intake of both fiber and water when you are having fearful or painful nightmares. Decrease sugar intake. Other natural remedies include vitamin C, E and B supplements and taking herbs such a echinacea, anise and caraway seed. Echinacea is found in pill form at the drugstore or health food store. Anise can be found at the grocery store and is used in baked goods to produce a licorice flavor. You can also eat anise by using it in recipes for German foods, in Indian soups and stews, and in pepperoni or sausage. Caraway seed, also in the spice aisle, is found in rye breads and sauerkraut, can be put in turkey pot pie to complement the flavor of the turkey, goes great when cooked into a reuben sandwich, and is a savory herb to use as part of lentil soup.

Herbs, used for medicine since the beginning of recorded history, have only recently been eclipsed by modern artificial medicines. Don't let relatively new prejudices against natural healing keep you from trying these safe and inexpensive ways to calm your bad dreams.

Re: bad dreams
I totally sympathize with you. I have had sleep problems since my accident 16 years ago. Before that that I had the occasional nightmare but nothing like what I deal with now.Everything that people have suggested I would say to try as well until you find what works for you. I know the dream catcher worked for my daughter in a big way. Even if it's in her head and its just a placebo effect the bottom line is it worked. So If all the rituals don't do it try another way until one does. The dream interpretation also helped my kids.So did thinking of something really great prior to sleep.I guess you can say we tried them all and in one way or another they all helped to some extent.

If you are taking meds I can tell you from experience that can be a huge problem, especially if you take sleeping pills as I do.They cause the most bazaar dreams you could imagine and some you can't.

I have had some reoccurring nightmares for years. I have dreamed of my oldest sons funeral since he was born. It scares the hell out of me!I dream about my other son being arrested for something not his fault. Kind of a wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing. Those started more recently. My daughter I can never remember the whole dream that scares me and wakes me just that I'm scared for her.

Funny that when I'm with Kam I rarely have them. I also noticed if I do wake up from a nightmare he just wraps me in his arms and I am able to sleep. I can't do that when I'm home.I think its because in my mind I feel safe with him.

There is no set thing that works for one person and they can really become serious so you should talk to your doctor if they continue. If its from medication them they might be able to change the meds or brand. Sometimes even a dosage change can help.Stress is probably the biggest known reason for these types of things. I agree with everyone that said you need to get it out of your system . It just not always easy. I know some people find writing the things that stress you out and your thoughts in a journal sometimes helps. Many people keep a dream journal as well then try to figure out what it all means. There are many books on the subject.

I wish you luck, I know it sucks. I get panic attacks and horrible nightmares from my meds and stress. You need to find what what works so your mind and body get the rest it needs.

Re: bad dreams
Everyone dreams/ has nightmares. Even with the problems I've had lately, no adverse nightmares.

Most people don't remember thier dreams. If you remember them, then try and think of how it relates to what's happenin' in your life. I think most are easy.

Stress has caused many of the dreams/ nightmares I've had.

Hope ya get this figgered out soon.
