Talkin' about the South.....Katrina
To all of those in her southern path, we all so hope that Katrina doesn't live up to her predicted damage estimations, she's a scary one.
We'll be thinking of all of you, and worrying about all of you there, hope you have already evacuated and/or have found suitable shelter, and waiting to hear that you have come through it all...
Columbus17, hope you're safe, be sure and let us know....

Re: Talkin' about the South.....
I just googled "Southhaven Mississippi", it's at the very north of the state, so I'm hoping Columbus17 won't be affected much there...

Thanks for the concern. Yeah, I'm at the northern most part of the state. We're starting to get some evacuees from the coast in town. We'll be full up by tonite.

Kelloggs says Strawberry PoPTarts are the single biggest selling item during these kinda events. The track storms and ship truckloads of um to the mostlikely zone. What a great country we live in. Be safe and do your homework!

Re: Talkin' about the South.....Katrina
ArmyBud is on the way! And Pres. Bush just said the "Disaster Relief Not Acceptable" Hope things get better fast. It not only is good for the people who need help, but in my opinion the poor response makes us "Americans" look bad in the eyes of the world. Hell if we can't take care of our own family at home who is going to respect our efforts overseas to fix the problems there?
God Speed ArmyBody. The spirit of America is riding on your shoulders.

I know the SD boys are there or will be shortly.. wish I could do more than just pull long hours at work to cover for the guards men who are headed south.

Thanks for reminding us of ALL the people doing their best for the suffering. Although we've been watching the images of the refugees, military, volunteers, etc...there are others that should also have our thoughts with them. the families of the military and volunteers, and people like yourself, who are left to carry on, pull up the slack while those who have chosen to, and have been trained to, put themselves in harms ways for all and any one in dire need. For many of us, all we can do is offer a few dollars, some kind of small effort, allot of prayers and a display, of any kind, of unification and support for anyone living the tragedy, and those that are there to help.

Re: Talkin' about the South.....Katrina
For anyone who wants to help these victims, but simply are not able to afford a donation, remember the Red Cross, they are in need of blood donations, and that's something most of us can do...
http://64.38.231.141/index.cfm
This link will take you straight to the blood donor page, just put in your zipcode, and find a blood drive near you, or call 800 GIVE LIFE (800 448-3543) if there are no drives near you for more information on how to donate.
So far, I'm not having any luck finding any ongoing blood drives in my tiny rural community, and I'm limited on how far I can drive in my very unreliable old car, but I'm gonna continue to search out a nearby place that is collecting blood for the Red Cross...

Re: Talkin' about the South.....Katrina
We're all relieved to hear that from you, Truckerwill!
And again, for those who want to help, but feel they cannot afford to, another way that you may be able to pitch in through an EBay auction....
you can list an item of your own for auction, and have the proceeds of that auction go to the "Katrina Disaster Relief"

Re: Talkin' about the South.....Katrina
St. Louis, Missouri has prepared for and expecting an arrival of about 2000 katrina evacuees today, tons of fundraisers going on and donations continue to roll in.
To anyone who plans on donating clothing to the Katrina victims, give a little bit of though to it before you do, keep in mind that these people have been suffering through the most inhumane, degrading and tragic circumstances.
Please make sure the clothing is clean and wearable, if it's torn, tattered, stained and not something you would wear, toss it in your rag box, and dig a little deeper in your closets and wardrobes. If you can, take a little time to remark clothing sizes on the items if it isn't readable on the tag any longer.
