Re: OK, Finally!!
my question is, what happens when it breaks down, or some idiot forgets to put enough fuel in, and runs out of fuel in mid-flight?

Re: OK, Finally!!
It's not entirely a new concept. They've had one around for years, decades even. I remember one that was made out of a AMC Gremlin. I'll have to google it, cause I believe it was on a car show once...

Re: OK, Finally!!
I saw it the other day. You do need a pilots license. Although it only flies at low altitudes and low speed so you only need the Sport pilots license. You can basically drive from the road to the airport. Drive onto the runway and push the button that unfolds the wings and converts over to the plane. Much like the cars that were also boats. Some of us older than 30 might remember them. I remember the first time I saw a guy drive his car into the lake and kept on going instead of sinking. Unlike the idiots that drove into the lake because they were just drunk.lol
The car/ plane is very limited in speed distance and altitude. I would think that other than the novelty of it I cant see it doing well. It will be a rich guys or collectors toy but not a good car or plane if you think about it. As for running out of fuel etc... The pilot still needs to follow the same laws that govern other pilots as to how much fuel they should have at all times etc. They said the car/plane should be on the road by 2015. The thing is I believe the government changed the requirements for cars so they are supposed to be at a minimum of 40 something mpg? So this wont meet the qualifications. Either way its getting the buzz they wanted.

Yeah, I do recall watching a history channel show about a guy who sunk is life into his flying car design. I think he finally got past the regulations for building them, but it was the regulations for owning and operating that stalled him out.

There were two that I remember... One was from the Gremlin, but the wing span was too big to be marketable. The other one was a three-wheeler that looked like something futuristic. Its major flaw was that the wings had to be carried in a separate trailer. This new model seems to have that one worked out...

Re: OK, Finally!!
This new one all folds and unfolds at the touch of a button. They had it on the Today show I think. It should be approved for main stream and in production by 2015 I think they said. Its at the car show if you want yo see it up close

Re: OK, Finally!!
Can you imagine it?...Its 2015 and your tooling down the highway near your home, when all of a sudden, two or more car-planes drop from the sky like fiery bricks? The news on TV says two car-planes crashed into each other, "cell-phones may have been the cause."
