dark shadows
been watching the series again, just loved the way Barnabas grab Willie by the throat when he unchained and open his coffin. then i Barnabas was in prisoned in it by his father, and his family made him a vamp?< how and why ?

If I remember correctly, Barnabas was in love with a woman named Josette; she being French had a hand maiden servant named, Angelique. Angelique, unknown to anyone at that time, practiced witchcraft. She also was in love with Barnabas. So she tried several things to get Barnabas. While she did get Josette and Barnabas to split up, she never could fully get him to love her, so she cursed him, he was bitten by a bat and became a vampire. He however didn't want to bear that curse and eventually had his father lock and chain him inside his coffin and hide the coffin in a secret ante- chamber in the family mausoleum crypt. 200+ years later Willie Loomis, a thief and grave robber, found the coffin and opened it looking for old Collins' family treasures. If you do a web search there is a company that has the whole series on DVD. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie Johnny Depp is coming out with where he plays Barnabas.

Nice summry Dark, because I have never seen Dark Shadows. I remember as a kid, if we turned the tv on and the showing was ending.. my mom would SCREAM... TURN IT OFF!

I thought Dark Shadows was a radio show. I know when I was a kid there was a radio station playing many of the old radio shows people used to listen to before Tv. I thought that was one of them. I just remember one was scary to me at the time.

The Shadow was the radio show.
Dark Shadows was a TV soap opera. I bought my mom the disc set if your interested.

Yep, want to check it out when I come out there.
As you know I get names mixed up all the time but at least I was close this time and Shadow was in the title. Is that the one that said "The Shadow knows....."?

i remember it was on when we came home from school , remember that music and i didn't get to watch cartoons till it was over ....as a young kids we didn't care too much went out to play . they do have it on netflix , i can watch it when i want too.i knew about Josette, but not the hand maiden, but not the rest,sifi was running it for a while but lost track with moving

Yes the Sci-Fi channel used to run it periodically. It was a Dan Curtis production, so once Mr. Curtis passed away, not sure who holds the rights to the broadcasts.

was just reading Johnny depp is making a movie as Barnabas Collins in the new dark shadows with a creepy twist , 5read it on msnbc/ entertainment along with him playing Tonto in the new lone ranger tooo gota like that one on facebook

Most "1/2 hour" shows are 18-22 minutes long now. We have added much more commercial time into shows these days.

i age as i age i guess, all i have been doing is turning white, even though i been told gray is better then bald. don't know if i like white too much.
Barnabas has lured the gal from the dinner to the old house to return his cane with her boyfriend.have to watch the next two episodes

I just saw some movie promos this weekend for the Johnny Depp version of Dark Shadows. I was having high hopes until I saw the movie promos. Unless they take this in a different direction from the movie clip I saw, I don't think anyone who enjoyed the original 1966-1971 TV show will like this movie. I'm sorta bummed. I hope the movie isn't as bad as shown, but I'm not holding out any realistic expectations now.

I read tonight that Jonathan Frid, the Canadian actor who was the original "Barnabas Collins" died of natural causes this past Friday, April 13, 2012. I posted in Rest in Peace; but wanted to post here since we had this post started as well. Frid as well as a couple original cast mates did make cameo appearances in the upcoming Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie coming out next month. I have seen the promos for the movie and they are playing it as a comedy. I feel so bad. But probably just as well. Because there will NEVER be anyone who could portray the character of Barnabas Collins like Jonathan Frid did. May he rest in peace.
