Glad you mentioned them. I ate at one on Christmas. The employee t-shirts said----

Re: St Patrick Day
This St. Patrick's Day, I'll have corned beef and cabbage (and a Bean O pill). Like the song says, "Another year older and deeper in debt." Maybe I'll start drinking again, if I can forget what it feels like the next day...

Re: St Patrick Day
I used to like St Patrick's day but these days it seems like its just another day most people around here use as an excuse to get wasted and act like that excuses all their bad behavior. It seems that we always know someone that gets killed or at least in a bad wreck. To top it off many of the towns treat it as a money making holiday both for businesses and the township. They have all these celebrations then the cops sit at the edge of town with road blocks up and ticket books out. Its not like there is public transportation so you are bound to get a lot of drunk drivers. It really has taken the fun out of the holiday.I wish they could go back to the parties and buses that they used to hire to drive people to a safe place or even home so they wouldn't drink and drive.
Last weekend Hoboken cancelled the parade but the town had a bar crawl that was all weekend long. They called it Lepra-com festival. The cops were writing tickets for anyone that had an open container in public or even had a house party (they got disturbing the piece tickets) EACH TICKET COST YOU $2,000. They had a no tolerance policy. My son went and said his friend had a party and got that $2,000 ticket and the party was shut down in the first 10 minutes. He said the cops were everywhere.

Re: St Patrick Day
It's only food coloring. If you got sick it must have been for another reason unless you had a bad reaction to the die. I laugh when they even make the bagels green around here. There is one place that dies the water in that area green. I can't remember where it was but the news had a big story about it because something went really wrong about 2 years ago. I know they are also trying to stop the towns that die things green that can effect the wild life. That is so funny that they let them die all of the crap we eat every day but as soon as a fish might ingest it, someone thinks "maybe we should stop this"

Anything for a buck------- Do you know how many of those "disturbing the peace tickets" are getting fought? Seems they over-stepped a bit by issuing those without a complaint.

Re: St Patrick Day
Really? I am going to tell my son to have his friend challenge the ticket they got. There was no complaint as far as they know it was just cops going door to door more or less. The party was only just starting he said they shut it down in the first 10 minutes. I think that $2,000 is excessive anyway and would challenge it on that alone. They have DWI fines less than that. These people weren't technically doing anything illegal. I would want to see how having a house party and drinking on your property is against the law. This time I am on the side of the kids. For those who got tickets for open containers on the street I have concerns as well.I also don't believe the fine is the same for open containers on other days of the year so how can they say just having an open container of alcohol in public is a $2,000 fine as well but only at St. Pat's celebrations. The mayor was all over TV. He was very proud of himself. It's a shame they do this. Then they wonder why people don't respect authority anymore.

I'd think all those that got tickets for house parties without a complaint should file a class action suit. As to the open containers----They shouldn't be out walkin around with those anyway. It's not New Orleans----

Re: St Patrick Day
Funny you should say that Ash. My son said that the cop asked if everyone was of age but didn't even bother to check as he wrote out the ticket to the guy who's house it was. In this case they were all over 21 anyway . I think they were just looking to make money and the Mayor just wanted to be all over TV.

This is a partial lists of Peeps that are offered at various times through the year. Chicks, bunny's, hearts, stars, gingerbread men, holiday trees, snowmen, ghosts, pumpkin, cats, chocolate mousse. They also come in a variety of colors and flavors. They now make then chocolate dipped, chocolate covered, caramel, etc...the list is ever growing. And yes they have green ones but as far as I see no Shamrock shapes yet.

KISS , Sorry but that recipe is only Diabetic friendly if they DON'T eat it!. I would check where ever you got it and write them a nasty letter. That would put some diabetics in a coma if they ate it.
Kam, there are a bunch of "Peep" sites that will make people laugh. Some are "Peep friendly" and some are "Peep killers". I guess I know where you stand on that.lol

Re: St Patrick Day
I thought this was bullshit but I checked this out and found out it is true. It IS NOT ILLEGAL for a parent to allow their child to drink alcohol in their home in NJ. I would not recommend that you give a young child a cocktail so don't get me wrong. Their father would drink with them at his house when they were about 15 or 16 and then brag to friends about it.(He is an alcoholic)Now that 2 of my kids are over 21 we got into a debate about this. Especially because I broke my rule (I didn't let them drink until 21 in my house) to let my daughter who is 16 have a "wine lesson" from a friend of mine who is a wine expert. This was a serious lesson and she was learning from one of the best in the world so I figured it was a great opportunity. My son showed me the law that states under some circumstances it is legal to allow a minor to drink alcohol in the home.I don't think St. Pats qualifies as a reason to drink though.

I remember a graduation party at the Shive's house, back in the 70's. Helen was passed out under a bush, and Mr. and Mrs. Shives were asking if she was going to be okay to drive home? (really... she is passed out?!)
I let them know her driving was not gonna me an issue, as she was not old enough. I'm not really sure how she got home that night? Maybe Helen's mom Mrs. Veley, (a 3rd grade teacher) was called?
