Sweet 16
Last night, I went to my niece's sweet 16 party. She's conserved enough to not be one of those rent a hall, lavish gifts, new car weapers, like you see on tv. She opted for a quiet dinner at home with the family, aunts and uncles stuff. Well anyway we got to talking around the table about being 16 again and what we remembered about that age.
I remember calling friends on the only phone in the house, "a rotary-dial" with a cord that nearly went in every room, if you stretched out just right. While I was doing that, I was waiting for the water to boil so I could make some Kraft-Macaroni & Cheese on the stove top. About this time, the automatic-record-player was popping down another 45 on the turn-table. Man am I old...

Re: Sweet 16
I know I am about your age GG and I have to say I agree on the phone but remember our first microwave and how amazed we were that we could cook a whole meal in 16 minutes. The first cordless phone was there but was so bad and so heavy not to mention had a very short battery life so we never used it. When I turned sixteen I still lived at home for part of the year and we all had our own phones so when the phone rang everyone went running for their room to see who's phone it was.I was working full time and out of school but I still loved cooking even when I did move out before my seventeenth birthday.I missed the microwave when I moved. I listened to mostly cassette tapes. We were told they would replace 8 Tracks.I think that was about the time Cable started and we had "Wometco" and "HBO" so we were really lucky. I remember our friends trying to look at the "dirty " movies that were scrambled.lol We also had a HUGE VCR that was a top loading (Still the best and almost never ate tapes). We were a very high tech house. My father had his own business. It was a TV and AC so we had all the top electronics. LOL NOT! We had all the new gadgets but all our TV's had the backs unscrewed and if we were lucky had most parts in them. I have changed more than one TV channel with pliers in my day. YES they used to be a dial. The family TV had a Remote but it was a "Clicker" and really clicked and hurt your fingers if you changed the channels to much.My father said they had "Extra parts you didn't need." He also had a water-skiing business in the summer. We spent most of our summers in the Catskills. I still love going there.

Re: Sweet 16
Well, my Sweet 16 was memorable, and not sure I'm prepared to share. It was NOT spent home quietly with the family. I did, however, wake up with a hangover and still made it to church.
