...and their eyes meet across a crowded room
Guess that's not happening much anymore, everyone's got their nose stuck in the smartphones, seems people isolate themselves in public settings and social events anymore.
I do wonder how many miss the chance to connect with another because of their phones.

And thier eyes meet across a crowded soom. Suddeoly, thier was a hail of semi-automatic broke out. There was mayhem confusion, and blood splattering everywhere. Then the unthinkable happened, got a text alert. (Thats cause I already got a dumb-ass alert)

I'm sure it's just the timing of when you look at these people. I never have my eyes to my phone for long periods of time. Just long enough to read the text, type a response, and send the response. Honestly, I think too many people are getting to be too much about the tangible (looks, money, and material things) and not about personality anymore.

I don't like my cell phone much at all, I cringe anytime it rings when I'm out in public.
In waiting rooms, in lines, at stoplights, everyone buries their face in their phone...just not as much eye contact and smiling anymore.
I've ran into friends with their kids, and they are embarrassed and kinda pissed when they try to bring their kids into the conversation, saying things like "Hasn't he/she grown since you last say him/her?" and their kids won't even look up. all ya see is the top of their heads and their thumbs flying.
Is it just me, or does it seem that people that use their cellphones the most in public, have the most stupid/annoying/loud ring tones?

I was in the library last week, when all of a sudden this loud music started next to a computer. It was a girls cell phone, and she had walked away. Fortunately, it was some decent music, and I thought it was kinda funny.

Was in a doctors office waiting room once where a woman across the room had this loud annoying ringtone of a english accent yelling "Help! I'm stuck in your pocket!"
Of course, her phone rang constantly.

Re: ...and their eyes meet across a crowded room
I got a new phone last year, a Samsung Intercept. My prior phone was over ten years old, and obsolete, I couldn't even buy a batter any longer. The new phone has some nice features. One feature I hate is texting!
It can be convenient at times, however, some people use it for everything. People no longer want to be bothered to have a real conversation.

Re: ...and their eyes meet across a crowded room
I use my phone for many things including texting.I love being able to reach family members with disturbing them during a shoot or business meeting or class. They either have it on vibrate or silent altogether. Son for our family it is a great thing and has even helped in some safety issues. However it has also been an annoyance in many situations. I sometimes wonder why people call the house don't leave a message then call my cell phone. I wouldn't mind if it was something urgent but is is normally something stupid! There are very few people that I want to talk to that badly. lol
Kam and I were out at a Japanese steak house. You know the kind, where the guys cook in front of you and throw knives and food around. There was a couple next to us maybe early 20's. They barely picked their heads up. They spent the entire time texting and playing a game with each other on separate devices while sitting next to each other.I don't know about all people but when I'm on a date I like to spend my time looking at him and participating in the things we are doing together at the place we are doing it. Those two could have had the same date they had by staying in two different places.
I was thinking of the movie the Sleeper and wonder will we ever get to the point where sex will be just stepping into a machine? Or that movie with Silvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock where they sat across from each other with virtual reality headsets on instead of touching each other? How sad that so many have stopped interacting face to face. My kids use their phones , computers etc all the time but they still interact and spend time with their friends in person as well.
I laugh when we have a meeting with my son and his partners one of the guys hates being interrupted or having someones attention taken away by a cell phone so he collects the cell phones at the beginning of the meeting. If someone says they are waiting for an important call or has to worry about a kid calling or something like that he has one of his younger brothers keep watch over the phones until the meeting is over.lol

I agree. Texting, as a means of conversation is a royal pain in the ass. However like Newbs said, I will text as a means of courtesy. I would much rather speak to the person. You can say much more in a shorter period of time and voice inflection can nail home the thought that you're trying to convey which could otherwise be misconstrued as something completely different. Plus, I hate that whole text spelling thing? Ne 1 ls no wot i mean (Yes, I left the question mark off on purpose!)
