Tv "season"
I'm not a big tv fan to begin with, even though I have sattlelight, mainly to find SOMETHING worth viewing. Yes, as anyone, I have my favorites. I've noticed, especially the new shows, will air the primier episode, 4 or 5 more episodes, go into repeats, or season finally. Older shows as well. Years ago, except for year end, (December/January), and summer re-runs, seasons were many months long. Is it that we have no attention span anymore, everyone wants "new" stuff, as we all get bored to easilly, or have people/writers, lost thier creativity/imaginations. Wtf? No, I'm not complaining at ALL, I really have a life, and better things to do, and only use tv in my liesure time, and I'm much more a talk radio buff. Are'nt our differences cool?

Re: Tv "season"
Know what you mean dude. In years past, a regular "season" was 39 episodes, broken down into 3 seasonal segments. Now it seem like 8 or 10 shows is the norm. I don't watch many tv series, mostly movies (if I can find a good one), but there's 1 or 2 I really like, and 1 of them is having the season finale next week. Christ almighty, it just started in September!!!! Thank God for sports!

My dear mom, will be 85 next month, (better health than me), always says "Old age is'nt so bad, when you consider the altenative". Good point. Another good one she told me, very simple and can be applied in a lot of things, "When in doubt, don't". And kiss, both she, and my late gf, were grammer major's. Came in handy with my gf. I'd be writing something, and she tell me how to spell it. By the same token, she'd ask me to add for her, I say "shoot", she'd run the numbers by me, I'd add them in my head=sum. Done. Could use her now to spell-check "Einstien", who's wife had to tie his shoes, as he could'nt do it.

Some are old and some I could even say act like animals at times but I was referring more to the shows they tend to work on. At least one member works on those shows a lot he works with broadcast as well but I think he prefers cable these days.

I haven't watched much basic broadcast in years because the program has been crap. I hate the so called reality crap they have been spitting out. I like the reality shows that are more on the lines of what animal planet, discovery, history channels tend to do.

The cable networks have really stepped up to the plate on scripted programs. As a society we should demand good programming.I don't mean everything needs to be thought provoking or educational but we shouldn't settle for the crap that has been thrown out on the airwaves the past 10 years or so. HBO,Showtime and a few others are really smart to have picked up the ball the broadcast networks dropped.

Re: Tv "season"
Sometimes, I think we need a little crap. I love documentaries, I love science and history but sometimes I just need some senseless crap. Can't be serious all the time.

I found allot of things changed in me after losing my brother. One of those changes happened to be in my movie/TV/internet habits. Brother and I shared allot of the same interests and no longer having him to share with kinda changed me a bit.

I find I need to seek out something senseless and dumbass regularly really, it balances me. I'm very clear on seeing the obvious editing, scripting, and formulas of what I watch. That's fine. I still love science, sociology and history but sometimes I just need some "crap"

That's a statement I can make with no shame at all.

Re: Tv "season"
Chazzy I totally get the mindless crap.I know everyone has their guilty pleasure. I just don't want the airways filled with it as it has been the past few years. A good old sitcom is crap but I like that it has talent doing the crap. I can't stand those so called reality shows.I will admit there are one or two I find funny occasionally but the rest just irritate me.I will never ever watch someone eat a rat again! When survivor started I was watching it with a friend who loved the show. I saw someone eat a rat and never watched it again. YUK!

Re: Tv "season"
Things go in predictable trends, Reality TV is just another trend like Variety Hour shows were in the seventies. There have been "eras" of Cop shows, Private detective shows, medical/Dr. shows, Talk shows,etc... We're just left to play the hand delt us I guess.

I'm kinda weird...eh, I'm so weird. I can sit down with my coffee for a break anytime, find something I've never been inclined to watch before and get something out of it. I don't expect to be entertained all the time, I can totally zone in on science or history shows, but I can watch anything and my mind wanders all the hell all over the place. I get so distracted by wandering about who decided to cast who in what parts, if the set and props are authenitic or reproductions, I'll notice if the sylists are doing a good or bad job. Why some lines were written the way they were, notice the editing, the timing, the mannerisms of the actors, and seriously, I've amused the hell out of myself with what I know is a pretty bad show.

There are times I watch programs I have no interest in, but I know loved ones do and it's nice to care enough to take an interest in what they like and have that to talk to them about.

Re: Tv "season"
Trust me I know all about trends. No we don't have to take what is dealt to us. If we don't watch it they wont make money and then they are forced to make better programming. I don't censor or boycott I just watch what I like and expect people to do the same. Maybe I had/have hopes that society will not tolerate this complete meltdown of quality on TV, especially when most of us pay through the nose for it these days.I never believed in dumbing things down for the public but that is exactly what I feel has happened.Perhaps my mistake was that I gave the public to much credit.

Re: Tv "season"
What some of us think is crap, has a large audience. As long as people are watching it, the ratings are high, the shows will continue. That's fine, I can always find something.

There's only a few shows that I really care about watching for myself, hubs and I have learned to compromise on things when he's home on his nights off and we watch together.

I don't really watch anything until late in the evening and it's my down time. During the day, I just catch a little here and there in between the chores.

Of course its all geared to a specific demographic. That is the whole point of the programming. The wider the demographic the wider the advertising dollar potential. The very specific demographic allows for more targeted advertising as the cable channels have done so well.

The thing about the "reality" shows is is that they are VERY cheep to produce so its easy to make money on them with little effort so they don't need a lot of ad dollars and get less heat from the bean counters and head of networks. They don't need to have the high numbers that a scripted show needs. If they happen to hit big like Jersey Shore then its all bonus money to them. They will milk everything they can from those shows.

Re: Tv "season"
I've honestly tried several times to watch Jersy Shore, I did manage once to watch an entire episode.

I do watch a few TLC shows only for my momma. She has a very limited time slot of TV watching time that my Dad isn't controlling the remote. Since I like to call her just about everyday and visit as often as possible, it does make her happy to have someone to talk to about things she watches or is interested in. I may not like the shows that much, but it's a simple little thing that makes my momma happy....so...totally worth it!

"Gold Rush Alaska" was awesome the first season, but this season they formated the show to be just like other shows like "Deadliest Catch" "AxMen" and "Ice Road Truckers" It's not as good, but I'm following anyway.

I hear from Chris1234 that "An Idiot Abroad" is in season two where he is, but won't air in the states till mid to late January. So looking forward to that.

Re: Tv "season"
A year ago, I got hooked on Jersey Shore during a marathon weekend airing. I thought it was kinda funny, and enjoyed the fights. The Snooki is most annoying. As an adult woman, (she is over 21), she makes a "Whaaa" noise like a baby, she overindulges in alcohol, does bad things, then says, "Why me, I don't deserve this!" I don't think I have to tell you what I'd do to her if she were my friend.

Some of my hometown redneck friends began watching this new show "Lady Hoggers". I pulled it up on the Internet, but haven't watched any episodes.

I use to watch 'Deadliest Catch". I guy I dated a couple of years ago once spent 2 years straight on one of those crab boats. He said he LOVED it, and made good money. He also has heard many of his friends have died. It is a dangerous job.

Re: Tv "season"
Our Liz's Kelly also worked the crab boats, the Time Bandit I think.

Caught a few of the hogger shows, didn't like them much. There's a trend of the whole 'women and guns' thing lately.

I'm ready for a new season of "Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman" and all of the Universe shows.

I haven't had a T.V. for anything other than DVD's in about 6 years now. I have movies I've bought, old favs and so on but no hook up to cable, sat, or anything like that......and when I moved into the place I have lived for the past two years, it had satellite because it was my mothers house and she had it. I watched it maybe, maybe 10 minutes. My sister was paying for it so when she came north she'd have something to watch. She shut it off with my blessing. I haven't missed T.V. a bit...I am so used to NOT having it, it's great. More time to feed the brain with music, playing guitar or listening. Reading...

Re: TV "season"
I had only had an antennae and a few stations for about eight years. I did fine. If I did turn on the TV, it was to watch PBS.

Now with the cable package we have, I love it. I love the science and history channels and shows and often look up and read up on things that were featured in an episode.

If I were to lose the cable package, I'd do fine, just like before but right now I have it, I love it.
