The Impact Of Advertising
Well, it's the run up to Christmas so the TV is full of adverts. I love comparing the different approaches the companies and their agencies have. Some are just plain funny (e.g. bookies), some try to be arty (e.g. Guinness), some have given up altogether and are just buying airtime (e.g. soaps & shampoos) but my favourites are the utterly pretentious cosmetics and perfumes which seem to push the line that women are a contradiction. A typical one (with a fake French accent) goes...
She is a business woman, but she is a mother. She is smart but she is sexy. She is modern, but she is traditional. She is a woman, but she is not a woman. Etc. etc. etc.
It's a trend which seems to have caught on with some of the "professional" girls on here too. I've seen this same text on several profiles in the last few weeks...
Everything about me, i am the person who remember the ones that help me but also the ones who destroy me, but no matter what i learn to forgive the others because remember u only have one life so enjoy It, and never look back live the life because the years gone never come back!

Re: The Impact Of Advertising
In the US, they really push the whole diamond and jewelry thing. The ads are ridiculous and cheesy and I'm not into jewelry.

Re: The Impact Of Advertising
Christmas has become too commercialized. I remember as a kid, the Christmas stuff didn't start up until after Thanksgiving. Now, we can't get through Halloween without hearing Christmas songs on the radio, seeing commercials for Christmas sales on TV, or getting some piece of junk mail advertising something about Christmas. The sad thing.... people are actually buying into this crap and feeding that monster. Now they figure that since people will go in and buy Christmas stuff at Halloween, they can start advertising earlier. My prediction... soon, there will be combined back-to-school and Christmas sales in August which people will still shop at. I just don't understand those people.
And why wake up at the asscrack of dawn to save $3 on a skillet the day after Thanksgiving? I'm really confused about the whole Black Friday thing and why people put themselves in a situation to suffer physical bodily harm. Unless I'm mistaken, there's at least one story each year about a person either seriously injured or killed from being trampled at a Black Friday Sale. But people still feed this monster called advertising and allow these stores to assume that their money is working so they'll start even earlier next year.

Re: The Impact Of Advertising
Awww shoot, we just order nice quality gift baskets online. That allows me to spend the time as it was meant, with family and loved ones celebrating the most important holiday of my faith.
