Deer Season
Well, of course...deer hunting season is a big deal in my area. The diners open gawd awful early to serve up the biscuits and gravy specials, people plan vacation time around the hunting season.
I believe Bow season is now?
Any hunters here?
I've got three beautiful deer in my backyard about every day, probably put out some corn for them this winter.

Officially, you need explicit permission from The Queen to eat swan in the UK. It is very rarely granted...

Re: Deer Season
Around here, shotgun season just started. All along the back streets you'll find hunters and empty vehicles along the roadside. It's not uncommon to find hunters walking along a roadside with a rifle or shotgun in hand. Just the other day, I was driving down a back street, making a delivery, when I came across three of them getting ready for trek in the woods. One of them must have gotten a new gun, as the other was inspecting it bouncing it in his arm as if to exaggerate light weightiness. As I drew closer, he stared down the barrel through the scope, pointing at me driving toward him. I decided to play with these guys a little, steering towards them and accelerating. By the time this guy was aware of my deceit, I was 8 feet away and laying on the horn. They dove in between their vehicles as I swerved to avoid them, not my greatest thought...Objects are closer than they appear through a scope!...

Re: Deer Season
Oh dear, never heard of such hunter behavior! No one ever points a gun at a person around here. It's taken very seriously, honestly...a person who even jokinly pointed an unloaded gun at someone else would be shunned and shamed!

Deer is awesome imo. Bears are not protected here or where I lived in Alaska, was big season there. What make me sick is most bear hunters are just hunting for trophy, most do not eat the meat.

Re: Deer Season
those guys would of been nailed up here,by the dnr, you have to be a hundred yards from the road or houses to hunt and the guns unloaded and cased. right now, till turkey day its small game and deer bow. turkey must be in the spring as they use to ask us were do we see all the birds at when we are doing mail route. i tell them birds are all over, just try to hit one with the truck, they run, turkeys are not dumb and some are tagged, and don't get spurred . i will stick to fishing, enough folks drowned at the boat launch though

In New Hampshire, it's the only time of year a perfect stranger can walk down a back street with a gun in his mitts and no one gives it a second glance or thought. That's is as long as he/she is wearing an orange vest...

Re: Deer Season
I once thought of a way to even up the odds or at least fuck with the hunter and his mind. I would borrow a buddies blowgun and drug a few deer. With them out cold, I would dress them up in orange vests. Could you imagine the second looks through their scopes as a deer wearing an orange vest bolts by?!...

Hey Chunkmeister!! I agree with you, I think they are. However, Nevada is doing their first ever bear hunt during which they want to kill 6 females to contain the bear population. I suppose people have had bears breaking into their houses looking for food. I don't know of any deaths, but I do know bears have gone after people also. It's gotten bad, so the state approved an annual bear hunt. This year, it's for 6 females or 20 total, whichever comes first. Lots of the environmental groups are pissed, but what I say is we sell them houses in the areas where the bears are breaking into houses. What are they gonna do, pet the bear while watching Oprah? Anyway, like you said, I think it's illegal to hunt bears, but in some special cases, there could be a bear hunt.

Yes, the bears are forced into populated areas because they cannot find food. Shoot the people, save the bears.

Ya, I think Easterner's have the wrong idea of Arizona. Was talking to one easterner, he was refering very negatively of our old west menallity. Gun toating, horse riding, voilence of old Tombstone, Tucson, string-em-up attitude. That we are backwards, and almost primative. Irritated the hell out of me, so I shot him.

Re: Deer Season
We have deer season, small game season and even bear season in NJ. I love animals but I also understand that at times we do need to have a hunt to keep the population under control. I have seen some irresponsible hunters but I believe that they are the few and far between. I hope that is the case anyway. If you are a hunter and I know many, I hope you do it responsibly and safely.
Many issues with the bears are due to stupid people!I have family living in a log cabin in the wood up in the mountains of NJ (Yes we have them). They moved there knowing with it came the wild life.NJ has areas designated as "KILL ZONES" those are certain areas that if a bear is spotted they are to be reported and killed by the authorities. They feel it is a safety issue. There are other areas that the bear can be relocated rather than killed. My family loves animals and ran into a problem. There is a bear that seems to have made his/her home on my families property or near it anyway. The problem started because a neighbor decided to leave food out for the bears because he thought they were "cute".Being a kill zone my family doesn't want to call it in. They have convinced the neighbor to stop feeding the bear, however its to late . Now the bears comes looking for food in that area.So far no one has been hurt and they are hoping to deter the bears from coming around by using bear proof garbage cans and other means to frighten them away. I am just afraid that someone will get hurt or killed before the bears are scared away if they can ever even do that. So far no luck and its been at least two years. It is against the law to feed the bears but the authorities did nothing to this idiot.Unfortunately it will be the bears or some Innocent person or dog that will pay the price. We also need to stop building. These animals are running out of places to go.

Of course there's not a big deer season around Tucson. We have Javalina (ha-a-lena, silent J, a litte spanish lingo) season. For all not familiar with javalina, they are simular to those big ole ugly mean-ass wild pig's. Load up, and FIRE!

Re: Deer Season
I just found out my girl friend's cousin works for a hunting show, "The Best of the West" out of Cody, Wyoming. The TV show airs on The Outdoor Channel and WildTV Canada. It consist of long range hunting of big game in the Western US and Canada. They recently did a show in New Zealand.
I had no idea one of those rifles cost $7,000. I know one guy who has three.
