Winter predictions
Talked about it a few years back.
I just checked the Farmer's Almanac and for our area the winter temps are predicted to be normal to milder than normal.
The hickory tree bore no nuts this year, some see that as a sign of a mild winter. Acorns are more than just abundant but the hickory trees are bare.
There's the woolly worm prediction method, how wide the orange band of the worm is a commonly used predictor of the winter ahead.
The persimmon predictor, cutting a persimmon in half and the inside will display what will look like a knife, fork and spoon. I keep forgetting what means what and have to look it up every year, but the persimmons aren't ripe and ready till the first hard frost anyway.

Re: Winter predictions
For some reason people have been askin' me for 3 months about this winter. I tell 'em that we'll get twice the snow and twice the cold.

Re: Winter predictions
"Near-normal temperatures are expected in the Midwest..."
Near normal? I don't know on what side of normal we'll be near, colder or warmer?
Anyway, a waxing gibbous moon this week

The November full moon is called the Full Beaver Moon, but I cannot guarantee that you will see a full beaver or have your beaver filled. Just can't predict some things.

Re: Winter predictions
I predict, this winter will be cold, with increasingly coldness as the winter wears on. Then it will have nothing better to do, but to get warm, but that won't happen till spring, around April or May...

Re: Winter predictions
Ah, looking forward to our first snowfall. Got the firewood stacked and hauled, gonna fetch all the evergreens for decorating my front porch during Thanksgiving week.
Since I'm the one who does all the firewood hauling, snow shoveling, I guess it might seem odd that I still love winter.

Since I'm the one who does all the firewood hauling, snow shoveling, I guess it might seem odd that I still love winter. I spent too many year's in S. East Wa. state, working with truck size tires, on up to the really big stuff, in snow, black ice, sub zero degree temps, no thank you. When the snow comes to the Catalina mountains, on the north side of Tucson, and all run up to ski, and play in the snow, I'll stay here where it's warm, thanks. Each to thier own huh.

Re: Winter predictions
Ya, we long time Az. residents just call it Flag for short, and yes it is real winter there, as in a good part of Az., the White mountains have real winters as well. Little known about Washington state, the "Evergreen state", about 1/4 of S.E., is desert except Az. cactus, plus heat, tumbleweeds, and the Columbia river. But winter non-the-less. I'm so happy to be out of the cold.
