Re: Beastie Boys
My late gf always told me, "You were in 3 rock bands, and you don't know artist/song?" I don't know Back Street Boys/Beastie Boys, fron Elvis. I had such a limited and sheltered youth, young adulthood. (poor baby). I just new how to do the music for the gigs, and call it a day, or night. Oh well! (I like this critter)

In my opinion, Barry Manilow is a brilliant musician, song writer and performer. Back in the 70's, it wasnt cool to like Barry. I got dragged to one of his concerts, and his show made a believer outta me.

Re: Beastie Boys
He really is very talented although most people don't admit they like him. I have to laugh when I hear people say they don't like him. First off he has sold a lot of fucking albums and concert tickets for a guy that no one likes. Not to mention gotten all the awards he has gotten. But if they ever took the time to look into his background they will see he has written, arranged and/or produced for many other artists.
People say the same thing about Celine Dion. If they are so bad why have these people made a fortune and sold more records than most people can dream about.Concert halls sell out in minutes when they have concerts. I admit I like them both. However, I still like Billy Joel better.lol

Re: Beastie Boys
See Newbs, now I almost did that too. I was going to use a comparison of Barry to Billy and Elton, but then I asked myself "why? Because they're all piano players?" Billy and Elton built their careers on Rock and Roll. Barry was more about an almost Vaudvillian style. I personally like Billy better, and Im sure most people would say that too. He's the only artist that I can honestly say that I bought his new albums as soon as they came out, and then replaced them all with CDs. Ive never bought a Barry Manilow anything. But to hear a Manilow song and listen to the lyrics and how the music is structured is truly the output of a brilliant artist.
And for the record? (no pun intended) I REALLY cant stand Celine Dion!

What the hell, Gary Pucket and the Union Gap. Just cheering for the home team, as the city of Union Gap Washington, tiny town in the gap of the mountain's, at the south end of Yakima, where Gary is from. And, I was born 35 north of Yakima. So, now that I shared that bit of useless info, I can just wait for the medication to take affect. (Plz put my "Dumb-ass" critter here)

Re: Beastie Boys
Trust me I don't have any Celine Dion music on my Ipod but I can't say she isn't talented. I just prefer other music styles.I do like listening to her every once in a while.(rare as it might be.)
I think Billy Joel is a favorite of so many for a different reason than you think. I feel its the guy next door appeal. Billy Joel sings like your next door neighbor. He doesn't have a great voice but he can sing ok. He also sings songs that you can relate too.I know like most people I love his general I'm you buddy attitude at his concerts as well as the fact that I know every song he sings. I love that most of the concert is a big sing along.Harry Chapin was very much the same way. You feel like your at your friends house and they are having a big jam session.

Re: Beastie Boys
Is there such a thing as a "not known" song when it comes to Billy Joel?
By the way I had my son say something to me that I think you smile at being you are such a big Billy Joel fan. The other day we were talking about all the different music my kids listen too. My son and daughter said they thought it was great that I always played all kinds of music when they were little so they got a very eclectic view of music I guess you can say. Then he stops as he was walking toward his room, turns around and says "But the best thing you ever did was play the hell out of Billy Joel for us. You have good taste in music. You definitely did that right when you raised us."lol

Re: Beastie Boys
More useless Trivia. The Liverpool Five. Relocated to Spokane, Wa. The kid that I ran with, lived a couple houses away from me, in small town of Pasco, Wa., his older brother, at some point, left the local band he was in, to replace the Liverpool Five's keyboardest. Then he (Mark Gage), was replaced by another keyboardest. Sucks when you know someone, who knows someone, and not known by your own merits. All I could be known for is, playing a pretty good copy of the lead guitar in "Hotel California". What's that all about? And so? (Dumb-ass critter here)

I like the emotion Barry puts into his songs. Not only from a performance stand point but the words also. Elton John does something similar.

Re: Beastie Boys
OOMG, I love Elton John. He is a bit of a cocky shit as a person but he is one of the few that has earned the right. I Loved the first concert he did with with Billy Joel I had floor seats and we didn't sit down all night. He and Billy Joel obviously have a lot of respect for each others talent. Elton played Piano Man and Billy played Rocket Man it was so cool! The concert was hours long and I think it could have gone on for hours more.I don't think I ever saw musicians have more fun on stage. I always love seeing anyone doing something they love. I think they were there as much for themselves as they were for us. I remember when we first got the tickets I thought they were way over priced but I didn't say that after the concert.I remember the tickets sold out in I believe 11 minutes and they added a shit load of more dates after that.
I have so many friends that I grew up with that are professional musicians , artists, comics, athletes etc. I always say that they have one thing in common if they are any good. They live and breath what they do. It's a part of them. They don't do it for the money. The money is just a bonus.Any of you that know me well enough that they are my FB friend as well as on here, look at my friends list you might see some interesting people on there.Several of them were practically born with a guitar or other instrument in their hand.
I always loved any concert that I went to that you can see it in the person on the stage. If you go to an Elton John concert it is almost like an aura coming from him when he plays and sings his songs.Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, The Ramones, Queen, Meatloaf...All of them are like that in person.Harry Chapin was very much like that. He was even better in a small venue where he could just be himself and chat with the audience.I think everyone knows people like this or maybe are people like this. Free definitely is.I know it sounds funny to most but if you told most of these guys they had to give up sex or their music I bet they would give up sex first.(Not happily, but they wont give up the music.)

Well, if they have already given up on sex "(not happily)", then having them give up on music would just be cruel, and inhuman.
I did date a guy once, and he played guitar. (Gee, that was not very specific.) Anyway, while holding his guitar, and playing he told me if he had to choose between going deaf, and going blind, he would rather have to go blind.
He was only 23. What a statement.
