The price of Halloween
I remember Ash talking about the price of pumpkins last year. Noticed the big ones for $4 at Walmart. Must have been a pretty good crop this year.
The mid-size bags of candy are about $2.50, really large bags are about $7.80.
Didn't notice the price of caramel apples or costumes.
How's that compare to your area?

Re: The price of Halloween
I had a rude awakening last week when I saw the Halloween display at Rite Aid. I'm not much of a candy eater and had NO idea how expensive it's gotten! And that's just the regular stuff, I cant even imagine what some of that upper end stuff that some of you guys like!

Re: The price of Halloween
I finally found some carmels. They were on sale, 2/$5.00. In the aisle, was a little old Spanish lady, with a coupon for $1.00 off TWO stand up bags of Reese, Hershey. I don't think this woman was even five foot tall. I found this item for her on the very top shelf which was way above my head.
It is all too complicated now adays, and expensive. I'm not sure how much English she knew, but I was still talking to her. She gave me the coupon, and walked away with nothing. I bought a 99 cent carmel apple, which was very sweet, and tastee.

Re: The price of Halloween
Halloween is so huge here. To be honest I am normally sick of it before we actually get to the Holiday itself.Today my son went looking for ideas and costumes. He has to wear a few different ones for work(They supply those). Then a different one for whatever their float is this year (again the business supplies that) then he has to come up with one for the party he is going too. My other son has the same issues. My daughter doesn't like the whole costume thing but her friends normally talk her into something. We keep the cost down by trying to use things we have to make a costume or at least make a costume that doesn't cost to much in materials.I have to say my kids have done a great job through the years.I used to make their costumes when they were little.
Candy is a bit less here than what Chazzy posted at least for the larger bags but I have to admit I try to buy them when they are on sale. The larger problem is trying not to eat it all before the kids come. I sometimes buy stuff I and my kids hate so we don't eat it all. But then you want to buy something most people will like so it gets complicated.lol They claim there is a pumpkin shortage this year. I heard the prices were very high but I don't intend on carving any this year so it wont effect me, and I haven't even noticed the prices. My brother does a very elaborate pumpkin carving thing and they do several. I bet they spend at least $75 on pumpkins alone.
Sometimes they will have things posted in the paper or on the township TV network to buy certain things and avoid certain things. Many times we have groups that trick or treat for a purpose so they may put the word out for people to please give those items to them when they come to your door.Like caned food etc..They also have pretty strict rules here. Trick or treat times and day are posted. They stick to the curfew pretty well. They also say if you don't want to have trick or treaters just keep your outside light off and most times they wont come to the door if your light is off. Mostly because you've ran out of candy if your light is off so why bother.lol
The only problem we have is mischief night. Although because I have kids we don't get hit to bad. But I have seen some people get bad shit done. We did have a couple of years where there were people just randomly shooting paintballs. That sucked!!!They got a lot of cars and houses. That was the biggest expense for many people due to the damage those things can do.
If you build a float then of coarse the cost can go way up even if you have a lot of material donated. And If you enter the house decorating contests then you can go crazy with those costs as well.I have stopped doing all those things. But people take that very serious around here. It is fun to go see some of them. Many people even dress up to give out candy to the kids.

Re: The price of Halloween
Fish nets are so damn uncomfortable! The ones with the solid feet and panty area are a little better but in general they suck. I hated wearing them. They always left a weird pattern on you if you had them on long enough and it took a few minutes to go away. Besides the fact that you had to keep that seem perfectly straight in the back.I hated if they ripped and someone wore them anyway. When we wore them to work we found wearing regular pantyhose under them made them a bit more tolerable. Or the thigh high kind or kind you wear with a garter belt are better. But with our uniforms/costumes we couldn't always wear those kinds.
