Boom! Boom!
I live in an area that isn't next door to a military base but isn't to far either. About once a month or so they do some practice stuff that is to say the least loud! The explosions are pretty constant all weekend and drives me insane. I try to tell myself to get over it, its important and just be grateful these are not real bombs trying to blow us up. These are all for training purposes. There have been a few errors like the time someone screwed up and dropped something on a local school and had a lot of explaining to do. Luckily it was a weekend so no one got hurt on the school grounds. But it was a big deal none the less.
So as I get shaken out of my bed by the blasts I wonder how the people that live in a real war zone do it. I can't imagine not just the volume but the fear of maybe the next bomb landing on their house or school or shopping center. How do people go through day to day life when living in those conditions?
I worry every time one of my kids goes out that they could be in an accident. I can't imagine how I could let them out of my site if I lived in a war zone. My kids are not in the military but have many friends whose kids are. I don't know how they sleep at night. I guess its just part of my make up to be a worrier. I know many of you have been in the military and have family in the military. You must be stronger than me. I am so grateful to all that serve and their families because I really do think it is the entire family that sacrifices not just the person in the service himself/herself.
I hope all your loved ones come home safe and soon.
Now, I will go back to jumping out of my skin every time I hear another blast.

Re: Boom! Boom!
I have in-laws that lived through the London Blitz, as I'm sure many of the British members here also have family history of that horrid time.
Just hearing a few of them relate their personal experiences was enough to give me a few nightmares.
The strength it took to survive and maintain sanity is amazing.
There is no other sound as terrifying as an air raid siren and knowing that a close or direct hit is imminent.
To experience all this in what was once the sanctuary of your own home, to know nothing much if anything at all can be done to save yourself and your family. Not until the dawn of day will you know who survived and knowing that at night fall it will all start again. Just horrifying.

Re: Boom! Boom!
Yesterday the paper said the police were getting hundreds of calls asking if we were having another earthquake. They said over the weekend they had a lot as well. They know over the weekend it was from the military base doing some blasting but the ground shaking yesterday they still don't know what it was but they said it was confirmed not to be an earthquake.
This stuff make everyone nervous around here even more than it used to because of the Nuclear power plant. There is a huge push to have the extension they are supposed to get revoked and the plant shut down.Having the oldest plant in the country and seeing what could happen because the one in Japan is so much like it scares people. Now that the report came out that said it is very vulnerable to weather and natural disasters people are scared.
I don't know how people that live with day to day wars or other immediate dangerous situations all around them live any type of a normal life.
