that time of year again...
i just made a pot of Reuben soup, and have a batch of sausage and sauerkraut soup in the crock pot. funny thing is, i don't really eat a lot of soup, but i've been craving both kinds lately, and now i can take it to work with me, so i know it'll get eaten up before it goes bad.

QUOTE (kamarel @ October 15, 2011, 20:03)most soups freeze well. yes they do, but i tend to forget that i have them in the freezer...i'd rather eat it freshly made, and now that i have a job that i can bring a lunch too, it'll be gone before i need to freeze it.

You can't just post something like that and not explain! So what are German grits?(Hoping I'm not walking right into a bad joke here.)

Never mind. I couldn't wait so I looked it up. I think I will stick to the southern style grits.

Re: that time of year again...
I am a very boring person when it comes to what I enjoy eating. I like the old standards. Homemade Chicken soup, If at all possible with matzo balls and a type of Jewish dumpling that I wont even try to post the name because then I get the "How the hell is that pronounced ?" emails.lol
I also like beef stew, pot roast, brisket and roast chicken. I guess most roasts in general are great in the winter. It heats the house up while spreading that great smell through the air then when its time to eat everyone is dieing to sit down to dinner because they smelled it cooking for hours.
It's also a great excuse to make lots of hot cocoa and tea.
The other nice thing about winter is I get to pull out all the boots that have been stuck in the closet for months.

Re: that time of year again...
A comfort food for me is chicken and dumplings. Chili was never a favorite of mine, but it was my ex-husbands speciality. The thing about chili is you can change up the type of beans and meat you use. Brisket instead of hamburger is very nice. And, I make some delicious homemade chicken soup. I can't eat anything which comes out of a can, and it is not good for you!

Just sent a car load of apples to a local cider maker and will be getting back 120 bottles of cider :-)
Also harvested a load of chestnuts from the garden yesterday.
It's like The Good Life here...

Stop that! We're still a couple of months away. Come here and accept your punishment.
