Energy drinks
Stuff like Red Bull, and those little shots...anyone use'em or tried them? I don't plan on spending any bucks on 'em myself, but curious if anyone finds them that useful?

Re: Energy drinks
I think I had a Red Bull and Vodka once, I think. I don't buy any, and probably only a small perecentage would actually provide an health benefits.
For example, I received this review on Vitamin Water.
"Flavored Water FAKER ALERT! So many products refer to themselves as "water," even when they're fully flavored and sweetened. Some of these are reasonable options; some of them really aren't. Most flavors of regular Vitaminwater have 50 calories per 8-oz. serving... but those 20-oz. bottles have 2 1/2 servings each! That means a bottle has 125 calories, not to mention around 30 grams of sugar (which is more than a cup of Coke)! Vitaminwater Zero, on the other hand, is a MUCH better choice, with sweetness and flavor but virtually no sugar and zero calories per serving."
No one needs more sugar in their diet!

Re: Energy drinks
my main problem with energy drinks? i've had days where i had to work both jobs back to back, on maybe 2 hours of sleep, so in the short interlude between jobs, i would drink either Amp, or Monster energy, thinking it'd give me some energy to make it through the next job...nope. it never hits me until no longer need it. if i drink it at 4 o'clock, thinking by 5 o'clock i'd be energized....well it hit's me around 9 or so, just in time for the last hour of my shift, and then i'm up half the night bouncing off the walls...lol

Re: Energy drinks
Funny you should mention it. I just tried one of those shot ones I got from the local dollar store. It was called, "RIP IT". I drank it while falling asleep at work today. I managed to stay awake, but my buddies told me that I would feel a burning feeling inside from the shot of Niacin. I don't think it worked all that well, but I did get in a round of golf after work and washed two loads of laundry, vacuumed the whole house, mowed the lawn (in the dark) and am now working on darning some socks. I took a break from the socks, since I can't seem to keep my hands steady threading the needle...

A while back, my father took me to Sams Club around here, when they first opened. He had been there and goes there regularly now for the free samples. I remember that he got a hold of some hot pocket bites that were too salty for his taste. Looking about, he spied a woman filling dixie-cups of Gatoraid, the original drink.
"Lets get some." he said excitedly.
"Lets not and say we did." I replied.
"You'll never amount to anything if you don't try it first."
"Fine, you drink all you want, Mister Experienced." I said.
He took a drink, downing the entire dixie, without even stopping to sip it first...I remember the facial expression to be the funniest at first. Instead of cool lime tasting soft drink, he got lime tasting saltwater. I thought he was going to spit it back into the cup, but he dropped that on the floor. As his face turned the color of the consumed liquid, he turned towards the woman who gave it to him and showered her in Gatoraid! I laughed so hard, stepping backwards, that I knocked over a display of Jelly Bellys behind me. The poor woman stood there, drink in hand, and said absolutely nothing. My father stood there in a frozen state, partially pleased to be rid of the awfully tasting liquid, and partially horrified by where it landed. The scene only made me laugh harder, until my sides could take no more of the abuse I put on them. Come to think of it, that was the last time he ever invited me to go with him ever again...

Re: Energy drinks
OK GG I swear I have to meat you some day. Or at least please write a book so I can read it! Your stories make me seriously laugh our loud!
Now back to the subject at hand. Those energy drinks are dangerous especially for women. They are filled with caffeine. Many are also very high in calories as well. If they are the low or zero calories they are worse than the ones with sugar because they have artificial sweeteners which are so bad for you I can't even get into it in this threat or it will be a book by the time I'm done.drink one the issues can be everything from tingling to heart attacks and everything in between. You have to also remember how they work. Its like any blast of energy you get in a fast shot through a substance. You will get the burst of energy but when it wears off you are at a lower energy level than you started.
They cause a multitude of health issues as well. Unfortunately they are targeted to our kids. Almost every kid from middle school on is into these drinks. My son has a bar and you wouldn't believe how many drinks they make with Red Bull and Monster. Monster used to sponsor my sons house parties at collage(His house parties had 400 people at them).
There are people (Many doctors and educators) Trying to get them at least rated like alcohol so they can't sell them to anyone under 21 due to the dangerous effects and health problems they are causing as well as issues in schools. For the record I was at a fair and sampled several of these as did my daughter. My tough felt really weird after I drank one and after two I felt jumpy and uncomfortable. I didn't like any I have ever tried. My daughter had several samples the size of a Dixie cup half filled and she was shaking I had to tell her NO MORE.
Gatorade is different but also has its times to not give them to some people. Some people think it is a replacement for water and it is not.It is also high in calories. It is great for dehydration if some is throwing up for instants. My kids hated Pedialite as babies my doctor said to try Gatorade instead and it worked great. But water is also important all by itself. YES OUT OF THE TAP!
