Freddie Mercury (Queen)
Googledoodle today is for Freddie and what would have been his 65 birthday.
Queen's catelog of music is pretty hefty, but it seemed that although every or many songs on every album were killer, only what seems to be a few live on in pop culture.
"Liar" is a favorte of mine, like it better than the over played hits.

Queen is a band you need to buy all of there albums. They went so far out on different limbs that worked. Their music was just to cool.

I know this will cause a storm, but I was listening to Queen for some hours in the car last weekend and came to the conclusion that they did some brilliant stuff and also some really shocking crap in their latter years...

Re: Freddie Mercury (Queen)
Agreed. The band was brilliant. Freddie had one of the most prolific and recognizable voices in Rock and Roll History. Combined with Brian May's blistering guitar licks and their constant delving into previously untested musical waters one of the greatest bands ever

Freddy Mercury and Queen stand out among all the others. Freddy Mercury was incredibly talented and versatile. I heard he never got his teeth fixed as the thought it would change his tone and range.

Re: Freddie Mercury (Queen)
I have never heard anyone argue when someone says he had one of the best if not the best voice in Rock and Roll. But I always laugh when I think about something I had seen years ago.
I believe it was about the time he past away. It was clips of interviews and videos. I remember one of the guys doing the interview said he was so shocked to find out Freddie Mercury was gay . (although he was more of a I will fuck anything I can put my cock into kind of guy than gay as Kam so nicely put it. lol)I just remember Freddie Mercury gave him a look that just read as "Well DUH!!!". Although he was slightly better and I do mean slightly when he said to the guy doing the interview. I believe it went something like this "The name of my band was QUEEN! and if that didn't do it have you lived under a rock and never seen me or heard my songs. I did everything except screen out I'M GAY !!!" (Very much like George Michael and Elton John.) Personally I would have been more shocked to find out if any of the three were straight.

Re: Freddie Mercury (Queen)
I pulled up some interesting facts on Mr. Mercury. I hope you enjoy. And, his famous overbite was caused by the presence of four extra teeth which pushed his incisors out.
Had a vocal range of 4 octaves.
Achieved grade IV in practical piano and theory.
Despite being a classically trained pianist, he admitted in an interview (Melody Maker, 2 May 1981) that he could read "very little" sheet music
Used a piano as a headboard for his bed and taught himself to play the piano backwards so if a song idea popped into his head when lying in bed, he could reach backwards and play it or record it.
There is a breed of yellow rose named after him.
Loved cats, and owned many of them. The song "Delilah" is written about his favorite.
His baby photo won photograph of the year in 1947 in his hometown.
Was bisexual.
He was diagnosed HIV positive in the spring of 1987.
In September 2010, he was named as "The Greatest Rock Legend Of All Time" in a poll for OnePoll, beating the King of Rock N'Roll, Elvis Presley, into second place.
Personal Quotes
If I didn't do this well, I just wouldn't have anything to do...I can't cook, and I'd be a terrible housewife .
I'm just a musical prostitute my dear
The bigger the better; in everything.
Years ago, I thought up the name Queen...It's just a name, but it's very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid...It's a strong name, very universal and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open to all sorts of interpretations. I was certainly aware of the gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it.
"I am as gay as a daffodil." (Speaking in 1974)
