yeah, I watched his Farenheit 9/11 movie. Biggest waste of my time. I'll never watch any of his work again. I don't care how good everyone thinks it is. He's an idiot, and shouldn't be allowed to be near a camera.

Re: Do You Know?
The beauty of living here in this country is we still have some rights(although they are less and less as time goes by.)
You don't have to like his work but he should always have the right to make his movies. I find the best way to have people I don't like go away is don't support them by giving them my money by way of buying their product or seeing their movie etc...I also know if you make a big deal they get free publicity and it only helps them. A perfect example is the movie Mel Gibson did about Jesus (Sorry I can't remember the name). So many people protested against it that he got an unbelievable amount of free publicity and people got curious and went to see it .He wound up having a huge hit because of the people that wanted it to be banned.
So Kiss what is the reason for the question? Or maybe I should say is there a point to the question?

Attributed to Voltaire; probably a "sexed-up" quote of a line from one of his letters...

Through subtle innuendo, it's become more and more obvious to me that a great number of us here, at least the regulars, have very similar views on "things".
Michael Moore is one of my favorite people in the media. Seriously! He's right at the top of my list of mouthy, ignorant, overpaid "celebrities" who should board the Space Shuttle (Hey, we're not using it any more!) and take a one way trip to explore Saturn. I'd name others that I feel should accompany him, but I'd probably have to take a few off the list because Im sure his fat ass would take up most of the acceptable weight allotment.

Hmmm, I wonder if I'm included in this list? Don't forget that I'm from the other side of the water and when we use the word "liberal" it isn't always as a swear word!! Ask LiberalWife!!!

Ah, but if you re-read what I said my dear 20 pound lighter friend, I never said the word "liberal". My bitch is ANY "celebrity" that uses their moment of fame to voice their social views, even if they're views that I agree with. If youre a singer, sing. If youre an actor, act. Promote youre songs, movies, TV shows. Thats fine. Other than that, shut up.
And Kam hit the nail on the head when he said about using their brains to formulate opinions. I respect other peoples opinions because they have them, more so than someone who just shrugs their shoulders and says "I dont know". However, it has to be THEIR opinion, not repeating something they heard someone else say and liked the way it sounded. They need to have the facts to back up what they say.
I've learned to never initiate conversations on social issues, but there are some people I know that just wont leave it alone and always try to debate with me on something current. And it rarely goes well. This is an actual conversation I had recently with one of these people, (edited of course)
She: Oh, well you probably like X
Me: There's points I like and some I dont
She: Well, I just dont like him
Me: Thats fair, but what dont you like?
She: (louder) I dont know, I just dont like him
Me: Well did you know this about this person, or that they have done this in the past. Did you know that this is the way they plan to address X, X and X?
She: No, I didnt know any of that
Me: Then what dont you like? Their hair? The way they dress? Or did someone tell you to not like them?
She: (silence)
The moral to my story? Opposing opinions are healthy, but only if both sides are willing to listen to the other side to see why they feel that way. But the worst thing you can do is to bring a knife to a gun fight!
What was this thread about, again??

Well...saw it, didn't care for it much as those kind of comments can be hurtful and offensive to any of our members who are not of what Free or anyone else might think is an "acceptable weight and body type" Just do as we do sometimes, monitor this for any backlash that may develope.
But Free's just like allot of artists, ... He's not only a singer/songwriter, he's a person with strong opinions.
Which is why I cannot totally agree with his thought that "celebrities" should not voice their views on things that matter to them. I don't think he should choose one, his music or his opinions, he has a right to both, so should anyone else.
So....hmmmmmmm.....

Oh please, you all know that I have never, nor would I ever say anything that would intentionally hurt anyone's feelings here, especially my good buddy 5tar. What I said was directed at my dislike for that person in question and him alone. If I said that he's never clean shaven doesnt mean I have something against members that wear beards. I also used the term "mouthy" and if anyone here would be in that category, it would be myself.
As I said in a previous thread a few weeks ago. I apologize to anyone I may have offended in the past, am offending now or may offend in the future. It's clearly not my intention to do so.

Not getting the connection between Orwell's character and Micheal Moore?
When it comes to literature, I'm more into something like William Faulkner, but if you want to start a new topic on the literature of Orwell, that's cool...I thought we were talking about Micheal Moore here.
Micheal Moore's stuff, not too familiar with it all, saw a little of his work, just didn't care enought for it to invest much of my time.

Re: Do You Know?
I have been sitting back and seeing where this would go. ( I know , totally not like me.)I always understood the "No religion. or politics" rule in most social setting but I am a bit disappointed that so many can't discus those things as adults with a brain. Unfortunately I do see the result and as I said and understand the rule.
It is difficult to discus Michael Moore without getting into politics a bit. Personally I enjoy disusing things like politics with people as long as I am having that discussion with a person that has a brain!
I can't say I agree or disagree with Michael Moore and all the things he says or believes any more than I do Bill Maher or Free.I happen to believe they are all quit intelligent but that doesn't mean I agree with them.I see at least two of them as extremes. Life is rarely all one way or the other. I think if most people were truly open minded and intelligent and really studied politics or most other subjects that are subjective they would come to the conclusion that all sides have some valid points.I'm sure we have all had moments that we have said "I wish I could combine a bit of this person with a bit of that person and they would be the perfect person for the job."
I do agree with Frees statement regarding the people that I refer to as "Parrots". I hate when someone just spouts crap because they heard it somewhere and it was a great sound bite. You just know they have no clue as to what they are talking about.I don't just avoid politics and religion with those people, I just avoid those people in general when possible.
In regard to "Celebrities" of any kind using their celerity to push their own personal views and/or agenda. Although that's what advertising does when they use a celebrity it always frustrated me.I always tried to figure out why someone would buy something or vote for someone or whatever the celebrity wanted them to do just because the celebrity said so. I actually know why, and that it works.Basically it is that people are like cattle.
People will see a person that played a president in a movie or show and that person could run for president and you would be shocked to know how many would vote for that person even knowing that the person knows nothing about politics.People also vote for someone that is better looking or have certain look for example they might vote for someone because "he has a kind face" or it might be race, sex, religion etc..Celebrities have a right to have their opinion and have a right to voice it, as do we. The difference is people will pay attention to them. So should we really blame the celebrity or the idiots that vote for a person or buys that product just because they heard a celebrity said to?
Should we stop all people from publishing books, news papers, blogs etc.. if they have an opposing view to ours? Same goes with people that do movies or TV show. Free one of your favorite bands was very political The Beatles. Many of there songs were political should they be banded? You know that Free and I are very different in our political views yet I respect him and his views (even though they are wrong and completely ridiculous.lol)Michael Moore is just using a different medium but its the same thing.

Re: Do You Know?
Ok, I need to clarify something that I said earlier that seems to have been misunderstood about what celebrities say. I wasnt talking about their art, whether it be paintings, poetry, movies, TV shows, plays, music etc. Art is art, regardless of the medium and most art comes from some sort of inspiration. I have ZERO problem with someone writing about it, acting it, singing it, painting it or what ever. I also have no problem with them expressing it when they're asked in an interview. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
What I was referring to is (and it's typically o live TV where it cant be edited out) like at The Emmys. The Grammys, The Oscars, a concert, a benefit, or whenever they get in front of a live microphone and come out with something that has nothing to do with why they're there in the first place. One that comes to mind in particular was at A Concert For New York right after 9-11. This particular Hollywood A List heavyweight (at the time) got in front of the microphone and spewed such political poison, that they cut the power to his microphone. He was lucky that he got boohed off stage instead of being charged by the crowd that was mostly NYC Firemen and Police that had just gone through 2 weeks of hell.
The only solace I take in things like that is that it's rarely a good career move. I can think of many, including the guy I mentioned above, that after they pull stunts like that, you rarely hear from afterward.

Awww don't blame her, blame me...it's part of what I do here afterall, 50% scapegoat-50% Free picker.

Hey, I've seen a simple little "Ford or Chevy?" get hotter and meaner than this thread! Ya never know what you're gonna get...we rarely ever just delete a whole topic based on the No Politics rule, usually just monitor it to see if it'll heat up or fizzle out.
