Charging your laptop debate.
I've been reading and listening to both sides of this debate, the debate being how to charge your laptop.
Do you charge it fully then use it till the warning for low battery comes on then recharge, or use it plugged in while at home and only use up the battery when you take it mobile and away from home and a power source?

Re: Charging your laptop debate.
I know it's harsh on the battery, but usually I have it plugged in whenever I use it. Sometimes, such as in class or if I'm looking up something at school, I'll use it running on battery. I've just had too many times when I get into something, and next thing I know, the battery has run out and it just shuts off.

I tell people to leave it plugged in but once a month unplug it run it on the battery till in shuts off itself. Then plug it in and use it. That way the battery gets used and it does not cause problems.

being a tech , and having to repair lots of camcorders , we had lots of problems with batterys and them getting memorys in them and it was bet to run them dead and the recharge, we were even getting new replaces from rca and mag that were bad right out of the box. so for mine i keep the laptop pluged in and run it dead once in a while.

Ditto JesseJames
I know even the experts at the manufactures can't always agree on this either.
I basically do a mix. I run it down on occasion but keep it plugged in most of the time.I have had top experts disagree what the best thing to preserve the battery long term would be.

Re: Charging your laptop debate.
i recently bought a new and larger battery for mine. I didn't know at the time you were suppose to charge and completely discharge them 2 or 3 times. So, I bought another and went thru this procedure. I had some difficulties while doing this. it worked fine the first time. Second time it shut off while at about half charge.
I went thru this again with it shutting off at about 44%.
I did finially get it completely discharged and fully recharged.
It seems fine.------At least for now.

Re: Charging your laptop debate.
I found that the latest battery tends to shut off at various times. Amount of charge doesn't seem to matter. Sometimes it doesn't want to charge. If I take it out and let it cool a minute or so, it works fine again.
So, last time it shut off and wouldn't charge the battery, i put the previous one in. The one that didn't want to charge. It's charging ok so far. I'm thinkin it's a temmp thing.

Re: Charging your laptop debate.
I'll add this.---The newest battery I bought for this seems to work fine.
Until it gets too much heat in it. Then it shuts off between 40-50%. I can restart it immediately without the charger but it'll shut off at about 30%. Restart again without charger on and discharge to minimum.
Sometimes after one of the unexpected shutdowns I turn on the charger and it shows pluged in, not charging.
Yhe thing I noticed was if I took the battery out and let it cool, it'll charge and work properly.
