Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
Hi I love writing erotic stories. But I usually prefer to tell them with a female as the main character. Being a guy this presents a dilemma. Do I write it in first person as if I am that woman, or do I use her name and write it as if i a male am telling you all about that woman?

I guess what i am asking is, do you think writing a first person female when i am male is a do or a don't? Would it be a turn off or doesn't it matter?

I can write first persons for myself as well, but I don't enjoy it as much.

Would love to know what others think

I would have to say go with what you do best.
If writing is your "art", as with all art...it belongs to the artist I believe. Create what you want, what you think is your best.

There are "formulas" for writing, the formulas are based on what sells, what people will be attracted too.

Depends on what kind of writer you want to be

Write whatever inspires you. That way you have a better chance of finishing it. Good luck. Some of the best stories out there broke all the dos and donts of their time.

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
If I weren't a writer myself, I probably would give you the same lame lines, but I did just that a month ago. I wrote a story, still unfinished, but it's in the point of view of a woman who is on a date with me. She's trying to accommodate me an my feelings while dealing with her own as we, "screw the lights fantastic," sort to speak. It can be very challenging to write in a format that you have no experience in what so ever. I would have to say, "If your a good writer, push yourself to write in every way, manner, or form". That's what will separate the true writers from the wannabe's."

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
I will give you my opinion strictly as a reader. I have no writing ability at all so take it however you chose.I read a lot.
I happen to have very eclectic taste. I have read things where writers "follow the rules" and do it quit well. I have read things where the writers don't follow any of the rules and have been told they will never get published , never mind become a top writer. The Twilight series is a great example of that. It might not be the best thing ever written but I have to admit I really enjoyed reading the series as did millions of other people of all ages. There are other writers that take the rules and bend them a bit.

I have to say I do know a little about art and artists in general.I do see writing as art. I truly believe you should write or create whatever your art is based on what you want not what others tell you. I recently read a book that the author kept changing back and forth between the two main characters. One chapter was from the girls point of view the next was from the boys and it switched every chapter. At first I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but I found it very interesting, and unusual.

There are many artists weather they be writers, musicians, etc, that have to "create" what they are told with in the parameters of what the backers , publishers , managers, editors, etc. tell them because it's a business and they usually don't have a lot of power until they build a reputation. Most of them hate that time and can't wait to get back to creating what they love.

So to answer your question. I don't believe there are do and don'ts when it comes to creating. Except maybe using spell check. And even that isn't always be correct.

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
Thanks everyone. That's real helpful. I am working on one at the moment that is in my usual 3rd person. I'll put it on as soon as I can, I would love to know what you think.

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
We had one guy here, he was great at being able to critique writing without any bias at all. I miss him, I'm writing a few things right now and I sure could use him now.

I think his username was Longtack, from China, he took a little "gettin' use to" but he had a talent and I sure could make use of that talent now myself, if you're asking for useful productive criticism, he could deliver, as long as you were willing to get what you ask for and not react defensively, he could be such a huge help.

I still hope he'll come back sometime, but I really doubt that, maybe someone like him will find their way here.
If you post and ask for honest opinions, you will get them in a very polite and positive way, if by chance, as I said before, you get what you ask for and an English major, Creative writing instructor, a published writer, a great editor, or an avid reader gives you criticism, clear your mind of the knee jerk emotions, and then devour everything they say, maybe it's good, maybe they aren't gettin' what your trying to do, maybe they're full of crap but it's worth giving some time to, it's the stuff that will broaden you. Give it attention, pick through it, take the good and throw away the rest.

Rather than 3rd, try to put it in first person. I was writing a story where I was switchng form protagonsit(her) to antogonist(him). Its a challenge. Especially if your your not sure of the emotions you want to invoke. Or the drift into the emotions of the other character. Have someone to edit and bounce ideas off.

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
Years and years ago, I was reading a kind of romance short story, the time period was good and the details were accurate, the characters were well crafted but past the half way mark of the story, the main male and female characters were engaging in their first sexual encounter .
It was romantic and very erotic, the author went to describe the male climax (ejaculation) as "...hot, creamy baby batter"

A very good story, but I passed that story on to others(without revealing to them why I wanted them to read it) and it seems I was not alone, no one could read those four words without spontaneously bursting out in laughter. Totally ruined the whole story.

Don't remember the author, the time era of the story, the story title or the names of any of the main characters, but I'm sure none of us will ever forget that phrase of "...hot creamy baby batter"

I know it's difficult to describes sex acts and genitalia in a highly erotic but creative way, but sometimes I do wish that when I'm reading a short story, that less time was spent on these desriptive reaches for creative terms, words and phrases.

How many does it take to create enough 'hot creamy baby batter' to wiggle in?

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
I just received a very hot story, written just for me. Here is just a small portion.

"Show me, right now...I want to see your cock. I want to see you stroke yourself while you are looking at my body."

Then a slow, sexy smile spreads over your face. "Do you need some more encouragement?" Your voice has a lilt and there is a naughty glint in your eye. Your hands move to the clasp on the front of your bikini top and before I can repsond, you undo the clasp and your gorgeous breasts bounce free.

I am sure which ever your preference, the story will be great!

Re: Erotic stories. Do's or Do Nots?
I once read a quote "Pornography is someone elses erotic that you don't like"

I think so many may have thier own impression of what is erotic writing and what is pornographic.

I really like the portion of the story that Kssu shared.
I don't mind a creative description of a cock in a story, but I do prefer that a cock be called a cock. It's those "dirty" words I think that trigger the arousal in some of us.

I like creativity, but for me, I'd prefer the creativity to be laced throughout the story and not just alternative words and phrases for cock, jiz, cum, pussy, and all that.
