You may have a hard time contacting your friends via the phone. I have 2 cousins, one in Norfolk, and one in Newport News, the phone lines are overloaded.

Re: so we had a earthquake
The phones do get bogged down, will give it a little time.

Here we have the tornados, I will say the Red Cross is fantastic at this kind of thing, had to contact them when we had family buried in the rubble of a tornado, they were great helping us find out if our loved ones were accounted for or not. (BTW, the children had only minor injuries, the mother's injuries were quite severe but she made a full recovery)

Red Cross, they are fine people

Re: so we had a earthquake
Felt the shock all the way up here today. I was in a car in the parking lot. I got this feeling of nausea, kind of like the feeling you would get from a potent drug or a cigarette that you smoked too quickly. Then I felt what I could only describe as the feeling of being in a boat as someone waked me. The car rocked back and forth, up and down, gently for five to seven seconds, before it stopped completely. It's kind of funny though. The guy on the radio and his female co-host started freaking out shortly after. It was later on the radio, I found out about the quake...

Re: so we had a earthquake
Wow this is so out of hand. I will clarify a few things. The earthquake was 5.8 to 6.0 depending of what channel you watch. They were still debating this last I checked. Most are going with a 5.9.
The epicenter was not far from Richmond Virginia. It was felt for quit a distance including here in NJ .(I will explain that further down.)

There were several structures damaged in Washington DC including finding cracks in the Washington monument. They have closed most or all of the museums, monuments and tourist attractions until they can be inspected for structural damage.

All NY and NJ major airports had a ground stoppage for a short time. This was for two reasons. One they had to evaluate air traffic towers and make sure they were safe. That was done very quickly. Then they held planes because they needed to make sure that wherever the planes were going had no problems and the plans themselves had no problems. Everything is back up and operational again.

NYC has had no reports of any major damage. They did have bricks falling and some reports of possible gas leaks and water leaks. These are also not unusual for NYC on a day to day basis but the numbers were up slightly.

NJ basically the same as NY. Some reports of gas leaks and water leaks but nothing major and minor structural damage reported through out the state. The nuclear power plant here in Forked River is on alert but didn't even go off line and no reports of any damage. The ones in Virginia on the other hand are on generators.

There are not now and have never been any Tsunami warnings after this earthquake anywhere including Virginia. They explained why but I wont go into all that science shit now.

For those trying to get though to people be phone. Emergency management locks up some portion of them but besides that the call volume was just overwhelming so they had issues with getting through to some areas more than others. Most of the issues are resolved.

Now , this is what happened. About ten minutes before two in the afternoon I was watching something in my sons room. He has the gigantic TV and the cable box.lol I was laying in his bed when I felt it start to move. At first I though the cat did one of his famous jumps from across the room. But the bed didn't stop moving and I noticed the cat was sitting in the bay window across the room.I looked up and noticed the two hanging lights where swaying as was the ceiling fan and lights.I also heard the thing that hangs in my living room clanging together like wind chimes. I thought "I would swear this is like what they talk about when they describe an earthquake".I call one of my brothers and asked if he could find out what was going on (He has direct access to the news desks at all the networks.)He was on a shoot in another state and said he felt it as well so we know something big is definitely going on. I change to CNN and they break in and start saying we just had an earthquake. I know it lasted about thirty seconds here and was eerie to feel the house shake like that but it really wasn't as traumatic as some are making it out to be. I will admit that at first I wondered if something blew up.I know if I was in a skyscraper it would have been very traumatic and I would have gotten the hell out as fast as I could and wouldn't go back in until it was inspected.
