Keep it moving along.....
I set my retired parents up with a computer, and I try to spend one day a week giving them computer lessons and such...so I'll be gone all day tomorrow.
So keep the forum moving along during my short absence....and, by the way, I'll be in need of some good headache advice and cures when I get home!
Also, anyone know the name of any good free computer class programs for seniors, let me know...gawd, that would be great...

Re: Keep it moving along.....
I'm proud of them for even trying! It took a month just for them to get the hang of emailing.
Dammit, you're too far away to cure my headache...I'll have to settle for Excedrin and Margaritas....

I don't know about there location, but here in Mississippi, most of the local community colleges offer free classes/tuition waivers to seniors. I know there are classes--"Introduction to Computer Concepts," and such available that meets one night a week for 2 1/2 hours throughout the semester, as well as a Saturday class than runs ......like five weeks I think for 6-8 hours. They teach basic internet usage, email basics, word-excel-power point. This would be a great time, because a school term is about ready to begin again (Damn, i don't know if I'm ready or not). Also check out your local library; mine advertises several classes throughout the year.

Re: Keep it moving along.....
Things went pretty well yesterday! They are really onto the email thing, but I've yet to teach them how to send attachments and how to open recieved attachments, I'll be starting on that next week.
I'll say it again, I'm really proud of 'em for being open to the whole idea of using a computer. I do believe it's very good for them to learn new things and keep their minds active and stimulated during their retirement years. (There's been quite a few studies on just that!)
If there is a senior(s) in your life ,I highly recommend taking the time to get them set up with a computer, and teaching them some basics...my parents had often said they had no interest in computers at all, but when it was all set up in front of them, it was a whole 'nother story!

Re: Keep it moving along.....
my parents have had a computer years. Just used word perfect. Then dad got this program to help run his business. then some fn idiot told my mom she needed to learn MSword (idiots). then the games for my then 3 year old niece when she visited. then came some online software for my dads business. then came email (thats a whole bunch of issues there). Now its burning cd's for my nieces digital camera that dad got her for her birthday. IT doesnt end. Now, please dont get me wrong, Ilove spending my time with my parents. But I am a network consultant, I dont really enjoy teaching non computer people computers. Its easy for me and I just dont see how it isnt easy for anyone else. So when it comes to helping my parents I hate it. Good luck chazzy. Its never ending. You shouldnt have done it!

Re: Keep it moving along.....
Fortunately, my father is picking up on things rather quickly, I help him learn a few things at a time, then he has the patience to then help my mother learn. Right now, they are thrilled with email, and surfing the net....
