Back to normal(?)
Ah, I'm switching off the narcotic pain pills today...sorry if my thoughts have meandered about the last day or two. I don't like narcotics, they may be great for pain but definitly have an affect on the personality, going back to the synthethic narcotic today, I like them much better, not as good for pain but doesn't get into your brain like the narcotics.

Re: Back to normal(?)
I feel for ya. A friend of mine suffered from chronic back pain for years which resulted in having a bulging disc removed. She said that weaning herself off of the prescription pain meds that she'd been taking for so long was the worst part of the whole ordeal

Re: Back to normal(?)
I really don't like any pills at all. I believe in pain being very important, it's your body talking and we should listen. I don't like pain killers, it would mean nothing when my doc asks me how I'm feeling post-op, if I've masked any pain or symptoms with pain killers, so I only take them sparingly

It is good to listen to your body, and not be over eager and pop pain meds in excess. It is also very important to be smart. It is more difficult for your body to heal once is in a state of distress.

If you have been through true pain management you know that they can't and wont block pain 100%. It would be dangerous. I live with pain everyday but if it weren't for pain management I wouldn't have anything even close to a quality of life.I am grateful for my pain killers but in reality they only make things somewhat bearable on most days. Unfortunately, I will always be on them unless they come up with something new and better.

Re: Back to normal(?)
I'm so bad about meds, it's my quirk...I just hate taking pills, I have to admit that I'm a bit worried that the surgery won't cure the pain and more will be have to be done, but I do understand that time is needed to know.

Re: Back to normal(?)
Sometimes the surgery is worse so do some checking before you make that leap. I couldn't even swallow a birth control pill without gagging before my accident. I've never been big on pills either but sometimes there is no choice for some situations. I tried about everything known to man before I went to the medications. I also went to 15 doctors looking for a miracle. Even one that got a paralyzed football player walking.

Re: Back to normal(?)
Ugh, I do remember a long road to recovery after an auto accident, it was so much hard work, but I did recover.
I'm grateful that other than that, and some migraine episodes, I've never had to suffer from chronic pain like so many of you have.
The longer I have pain, the more tolerance I develope for it, which is so bad, it means it takes me much longer to give in and seek help. I tend to actually believe that I'm beginning to feel better, when I'm actually just tolerating it better.
Kssu, not being stupid about it is a bit difficult for me if I take the pain med, then I'm more apt to get up and overdo things which is dumb, it's the pain that moderates me and how much and what I do. Opiates give me a depressed dark feeling, so I'm more apt to just lie in bed which isn't much good either. I don't like opiates. weird...opiates makes hubs a goofy happy mess.
