Who here is sarcastic?
We who spend our days IMing, Facebooking, Tweeting and so on have said it time and time again: there is a great need for a sarcasm font. Well, it looks like our social networking prayers have finally been answered by a company called Twitterblitz, started by three New York interns working at Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH). The solution? Sartalics.
Here's how Sartalics will work: when you want to send a sarcastic comment, you will simply put your sarcastic sentence between two backslashes and the words will slant to the left, signifying that what you are saying is the opposite of what you mean.
Twitterblitz plans on tweeting directly at "all of internet's biggest players" including executives at Google, Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft, Tumblr, Yahoo and Apple informing them of Sartalics. However, this will only happen once Twitterblitz gets 10,000 people to sign the pledge on their website. Twitter users are joining "Twitterblitz for Sartalics," an app that allows thousands of tweets to be sent from different accounts all at once, which will ensure that Sartalics becomes a trending Twitter topic.
People are beginning to slowly but surely show their support of this initiative by following Sartalics on Twitter. Your Twitter account will act as your virtual signature.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
The problem is , if I have to do something to highlight my sarcasm it kind of takes the fun out of it.It's like having to explain a joke to someone. It's just more fun to sit back and wait to see who gets it and who doesn't. Besides I finally got used to the little abbreviations IE: LOL = laughing out loud and then the emoticons IE: Smilie face Now they want to add this. Where does the madness top?
We can't give into this. It's like when they came out with a specialty yellow pages. Then another type of phone book. Before you could even blink we were up to 10 different types of phone books that not only did people have to pay to be in but now we had to have in our houses.
Or like when they stared adding little "bugs" to your TV screen. First it was just the Station number, then the call letters, then the time, date, and weather. Then logo's, and moving icons, then sound to the logo, then they added "crawls". There is so much crap on the TV screen now I can hardly see the show I'm trying to watch.
NO I will refuse to give into this! I am taking a stand against this. My sarcasm will just have to be the way it always has been. Normal and misunderstood at times. Not that I'm sarcastic anyway.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
I somewhat agree with newbie. It's kind of like having to explain a joke, which takes the sarcasm out of what was said, because somewhere around 80% of people who didn't get it before the explanation still won't get it. I doubt I'll buy into this stuff, but it's good to know about. Thanks for the information, kss.

Nice to know we all agree. (That has to be a first!) So from what I can see no one on here is sarcastic so it doesn't apply anyway.
I have to admit that Kiss does find some of the most interesting things to post about though.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Sarcasm is defined as "a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain" or "A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound"
I often see people say with much pride that they are sarcastic, but from where I come from, the way I was raised, it's not a pretty thing to brag about.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Ya know, I am accused of being very sarcastic. However, 99% of the time I am just stating a fact. Maybe everyone else just ignores these facts, and I'm the only dumb one enough or ballsy enough to bring it into the light.
It turns out to usually be funny.
Also, when you "hurt" someone, just by stating the facts of their behavior? And, I don't mean intentionally rubbing someone's face in something to hurt them. I mean, when they are rude, selfish, and nasty, and you point this out, you are the bad guy?!

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
There's a huge difference between sarcastic and having a sarcastic sense of humor.
In an argument or heated moment, sarcasm comes pretty natural to most all of us I think.
Rude and selfish people don't bother that much anymore, I always leave a tip, no matter what. People sometimes just have a bad moment, a bad day...just like all of us. If I can say or do one gentle thing to possible change their mood or the course of their day, I'll give it a shot.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Me? Sarcastic....just the notion hurts me, it cuts me deeply....I will say as far as explaining jokes, I don't I just tell the person that some of my humor is time released, so they will probably wake up at like 3 am laughing their ass off.....Or I might say, "Wait let me break out the crayons and stupid this up for ya a bit.."....but sarcasm? No way....nada, nuh uh, nyet, nevah....

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
I kinda like the idea of the sarcasm font, I don't use the mentioned social media much at all though.
There are sarcastic people, it's a major part of their personality and they are usually pretty bitter overall. There are people who use sarcasm when they are pissed and use it intentionally to hurt. There are people who have a sarcastic sense of humor, they usually use it at people or with people that understand and know them and it does come across as humor. It's meant as humor and it comes across as humor.
Someone told me a long long time ago that I was very sarcastic, they were right, so I've learned to rely on other ways of expressing myself and I'm a happier person for it.
Humor, hell....most humor is sarcastic.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
I have a very sarcastic sense of humour, with a large dose or irony and a dash of cheeky mixed in.
Most of my friends and people I work with have a similar make up, maybe it is the English way, but certainly with those I know it is just the way we talk to each other and we are all fine with it. I think it can be easier when you are face to face with people as I am always smiling, but I have to say I doubt I will ever "explain" myself to others. People either "love me or hate me" and I can live with that

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
You have the sparkling eyes, I'm sure your smile is the same, I doubt you ever need to explain yourself, the eyes say it.
Thinking about just my family, my father has a very sweet and silly sense of humor and I love it, my brother is shocking and inappropriate, if I read his jokes in print, I wouldn't laugh, it's the dynamic of his wife saying "Don't you dare tell that joke" and him telling it anyway kinda thing that makes him funny, my sister has the most unique type of humor, difficult to describe....it's kind of a verbal prankster type of thing.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
One of my favorite sayings is: (if you have ever read my profile then you have seen this)Tact is for people who aren't witty enough to be sarcastic.
I like sarcastic humor and sarcasm in general when called for.
I do consider myself a nice person. Actually I consider myself nicer than most. I care about people and things around me. I am compassionate in a world that doesn't have much compassion. I am not a door mat however so I don't put up with any crap either. I am not rude unless I have reason. Just because someone doesn't agree with me or understand the reason doesn't make me wrong for having it. I never waste time trying to get people to like me either. You don't have to like me and I don't care if you do. I never worried about that stuff. I know who I am and I like me. That's what is important. I don't understand why people judge me or anyone else when they don't know me, that has always confused me but I figure that is really their issue not mine.
So I see others pretty much the same way. I don't even have to agree with you to like or respect you. As I have stated many times, Free is the best example. We have so many conflicting views yet I really like and respect him very much. There are many people I feel that way about. There are many people I don't care anything about as well. I usually don't hate or dislike because that takes energy I am not willing to give to people unless I care for them. I give everyone a shot , but if you blow it I am not big on second and never third chances. When I love I love deeply but it's rare you get me to love like that. Never ever hurt someone I love or you see a side of me that would scare most anyone.
I do see myself as sarcastic and am proud of it. I do not see it as a negative. There are many things that make a good or bad person. I have much more of an issue with judgmental idiots who make up their mind about a person without knowing anything about them. Ok maybe that's a bit judgmental. lol But I only judge judgmental people the rest is open for me.At the end of the day I can rest easy that I did right by the world that day whether I was sarcastic or not.I bet there are a lot that can't say the same.Sugar coating what you say doesn't make you a good person it is how you live your life.
I said all this because if someone is going to judge , judge me on me, not my sarcasm.
TOTALLY OFF SUBJECT: Josie I hope all is well where you are. I hear there are some problems with riots and looting. I don't know if it is anywhere near you and our other friends from England but I hope your all safe.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Awww, I really don't see you or kssu as sarcastic people...sarcastic people are bitter, caustic, defensive, angry and all that. I certainly don't see ya'all as people that use sarcasm in a malicous manner.
Ya'all are good people who enjoy sarcastic humor. TV shows, ads, movies, books, any media...sarcastic humor is the most common and the most popular.
Sometimes we should all admit to something, and that is when others "don't get" or laugh at our jokes or remarks, it's not only because they are stupid or humorless, sometimes we have to admit that we aren't always as funny as we think.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Have ya'all ever typed out something off the cuff...then said, "nah, nobody will get that"...and then delete it?
Awww seriously, definitions will differ, as I said before, a sarcastic person where I come from, means a total bitch, a mean caustic person. Where you come from could and probably does have a different meaning. If you're cool with calling yourself a sarcastic person, that's fine of course, I could never call any of you that, it's a mean thing to me.
There's just a huge difference for me, between a sarcastic person, and a person with a sarcastic sense of humor.
I also admire tact, straight forward and clear tact, don't judge me because of that

I hope you and your friends and family stay safe. I hope things settle down. I never understood how people think these things better their cause. Of course most just do it as and use an excuse to be fucked up. I hope things settle down.
Josie,Of course you can hop on a plane and hang with us for a while. You know we would make you feel very welcome.Wandering that goes for you as well as any of our other friends over there.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Ah hell, definitly wanna go back to the topic though, kinda the topic,
Tact- Newb, I think the quote is a clever one, but..we've all seen you being tactful, when someone asks for an honest veiwpoint, or for advice, and we've seen you argue and disagree with tact...you've done tact and you've done it very well. None of us could say otherwise for sure
Kssu, probably never told you this but I have come to depend on your tact, you are my sounding board(?) dammit, can't think of the right term or word, but anyway, if I post something that mashes your gears, or is a put-off in general, I know you will, in a few sentences, tactfully let me know, gawd I love that and sincerely, I do depend on you for that.
Back to sarcasm, hell...I'm positive that none of us has lived a day without it, we all, everday have sarcastic thoughts, make sarcastic remarks, and laugh at sarcasm.
Now sarcastic people, dammit dammit dammit....help me out here, I really just want ya'all to define in your own words what sarcasm is, and describe to me a sarcastic person, cuz I think all of our definitions would vary so much, what some of you think of as a sarcastic person, is what I would maybe think of as someone with sharp/fast wit, or clever?
Dammit dammit dammit...seriously, I am dying to know what ya'all think, gimme a description of what you think a sarcastic person is, please?

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
I do think we have a different opinion on what sarcasm is. That is why I posted the little comment. I think it is sometimes a way of being funny without being outright nasty but still getting your point across yet it can be downright nasty if you chose to use it that way as well. That's where the people that are naturally good at it come in and separate from the amateurs. Some people just can't pull off sarcasm. It just doesn't sound right coming from some people no matter how hard they try. It has to be something that just rolls out of you as natural as breathing.I also think it requires a certain amount of intelligence. We definitely know some people can't pull that off.
Just read some of Free's, Kam's or Grandelf's posts you will see they are born to be sarcastic and they are all extremely intelligent. I almost wish you could hear some of the stuff Kam says and gets away with. It's kind of being in on the joke and most of the other people in the world just don't get it most times , at least until your about an hour away and it dawns on them what he meant.lol
I guess you can say I see it as intelligent humor.

Re: Who here is sarcastic?
Well see, that is totally different.
Intelligent humor is what we would call clever, sharp, fast witted. They can use sarcasm as humor and everyone laughs...no one crys, gets hurt, or is appalled. They have that blend of intelligence and social skills.
A sarcastic person would be someone who deliberately says nasty things to put others down and to hurt, humor is not their objective and above average intelligence is not a factor at all. The ones I do know, and have known, I'm thinking of them right now and the only way intelligence factors in at all is that they seem to be insecure in that area, they put others down to somehow try to make themselves feel superior.
Location I think may make a difference maybe? Would I have a different definition if I grew up in a densely populated area where the people I encounter in the course of a day, I'm unlikely to ever see again?
In a small community, we were taught very young about not being sarcastic (as per the classic definition) because in a smaller community, everyone is related to everyone else by blood or marriage, everyone is friends with, does business with everyone else. So...being a nasty mouthy smart ass is just really hurting yourself.
