anemia
I've had iron defiency anemia my whole life. In 2006 I received about 35 units of blood in a three month time period. Then, in early 2007 I had a hysterectomy. My doctors thought this would make the anemia go away. It helped but didn't make it go away. I've only had a few transfusions since then and I take iron pills every day. The other day my doctor called and said my iron was very low and that I need IV iron treatments. (I've had these in the past and I'm allergic to them so they have to give me benedryl with it.) I just don't understand why it's so low when I'm taking mega doses of iron every day. Has anyone else had this problem? I also have frequent anaphylactic reactions. I start treatments next week.

Re: anemia
Awww geez, hate to hear you have to suffer through this!
Actually, in my family it's the opposite, iron overload runs in our family. Donating blood on a regular basis is the cure, only my late brother and late uncle had it, the rest of us have been tested.
I did read up a bit after seeing your post, (mayo clinic)
I feel for ya, the transfusions, the allergic reaction, and hell, I know just being low on iron and being anemic just feel awful.

Re: anemia
Thanks Chazzy. It does make you feel bad. I just hate feeling weak and getting tired so easy. They are doing a bunch of tests to see if there's any reason for me not absorbing iron. Hopefully I will know something soon. Hope you're feeling better Chazzy!
