That's the word!!
I just kinda love those "That's the word!" or "So that's what they call that thingy!" kind of moments.
Just had one, never knew till just now that the sort of embossed edge and center line area of the highways are called rumble strips.
I once spent way too much time online in a hit and miss fashion looking for a certain type of door hardware/lock until I finally came across the name of the type....barrel lock. Hell, that made comparison shopping a whole lot easier.
I don't like staring at that blank search engine box and all I can think of is "Oh, you know....that thingy"

Re: That's the word!!
Over the last 10-15 years, I've developed my "words". Lack of words came from the communication in my family. My father who would say, "the what'cha'ma call it." My poor mother who can barely recall anything. With her it is, "I don't know", or "I don't remember." In my job, it was very necessary to be clear and concise. Now I find myself writing, and re-writing, constantly, editing to make sure I have the correct word. For example; "I understand", rather than, "I know". No, I don't know, I don't want to presume I know. Everyone has the right to their own unique feelings, and experience, so I can't fully know, but can try to understand.
Little off topic.. sorry Chazzy!
I know it can be frustrating and confusing doing a search when you have the idea of what you want, but not the proper word.

Re: That's the word!!
Had one of those just yesterday...My best bud stood there holding up a clear plastic box. The box had a lock on it and a slot in the top. He stood there in a quandary wondering what in the hell the word for what he was thinking about. I asked, "What's the matter?"
"What is this thingy for?"
"Well, Salisbury's been using it for tickets to get rid of a few tool boxes..."
" Oh, so they're using it too...Damn, what's that word!"
"What word?" I asked, knowing full well what it was, but I let his frustration proceed.
"You put tickets in it and pull out the winner...You know?!"
"A raffle?"
"Yea, that's it...A RAFFLE!"
